Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)
I'm a die-hard Indiana Jones Fan-and Loved this film!
I have been an Indiana Jones fan since my father took me to see Raiders in the theater when I was 5. I have read every novel, every comic book, and yes...I went in costume to the midnight premier. Needless to say I was initially disappointed. I was so used to the Nazis that I had trouble adapting to the new Indiana time period. However, the flashes back to the novels of his later years exploded in my mind.
The bad reviews seem to come mostly from people who only know Indiana from his movies. Have you played the games? Have you read the books? Indiana has met aliens in dozens.
The point is, that the movie was made in a new era. A new style of film making that has changed even the way the Star Wars films were produced. What is truly important is did you enjoy the film? The truth is a resounding YES! Indy IV is an incredible thrill ride through jungles and forgotten temples. The corny 1980's dialogue is still present and the cheesy tag lines we have all come to love from Indy are still there.
The film is great, and a welcome addition to the trilogy. I would rank it below raiders and temple, but I think it beats Crusade hands down.
Dragonlance: Dragons of Autumn Twilight (2008)
If you're a Fan of the Series, sit back and enjoy
I'm a huge animation fan. I'm a huge Dragonlance fan. I will state for the record that if you are looking for incredible animation and great acting, look elsewhere.
The character portrayals were cliché at some parts. Laurana came off as almost cheerleader-like. Several of the other characters seemed to really miss the mark as well.
The animation was odd, to say the least. It was a strange combination of poor CG and decent still frame animation. The artistry of both was great but the frame count was low, so the animation became choppy.
That being said, the story was excellent. They did a great job of staying fairly loyal to the book. I have been a fan of the series for ages and have dreamed of seeing it portrayed in a movie form. Seeing Raistlin's eyes flash was a dream come true.
If you enjoy the series, this is definitely worth the rental. I'm going to buy it myself. Its not the greatest animation in the world, but when one of your favorite stories becomes a movie-you should pick it up.
Mega Snake (2007)
I Didn't Think it Was That bad
Its not like were watching a huge budget production here, but they did well with what they had. Granted, the Sheriff with a Phd was a little too convenient, a hobby in snakes would have been better. BUt this is a classic monster flick like 8 Legged Freaks or Lake Placid. It doesn't need to have an Oscar quality script, its meant to be fun. I was glad to see Michael Shanks in it though, I had missed him after Stargate was over. The acting in the movie was varied. Several of the performances were WAY over the top. I did originally watch this hoping for a superhero flick starring feedback, and was disappointed that he was just a cameo. I enjoyed the movie as a whole, found it pleasantly hokey and entertaining.
