Old (2021)
Worst movie ever
Many others have stated the flaws, lousy pace and plot holes. We almost walked out. Everything about it was flat and boring. I'm amazed to see high ratings. There's nothing entertaining about this film.
Hacks (2021)
Love it!
So far, we saw the first episode only and love it. Jean Smart is always outstanding and highly watchable. She has the acting gravitas to pull off anything. The glitz of character's lifestyle, fashion, style, humors are a sorely needed gift. This series is exactly what we need right now. It's a high-quality form of escapism. I thought of Joan Rivers which is fantastic as I'm a major fan. She would have loved it too. Looking forward to seeing all episodes. Thank you!!!
Bling Empire (2021)
Sad and Empty
I'm a big reality TV fan. Will watch almost anything. This show left me feeling sad and empty. The flashiness of wealth and narcissistic attitudes were too much. Beyond that, it felt fake with zero authenticity. Could only handle one episode. Everyone has their limits.
Pieces of a Woman (2020)
Glacial Pace
We wanted to like it, it's such a terribly sad subject. The movie starts strong with a grueling and tragic scene. But after that, it grinds to a glacial pace with lackluster dialog and character
development. It felt like so much more
could have been done. I'm surprised we saw the whole thing, thought it would never end.
The Midnight Sky (2020)
Major Disappointment
We wanted to like it but what a disappointment! It felt self-indulgent, pointless, boring and generally made no sense. Why Clooney didn't immediately freeze solid after being dunked in water during a blizzard was incredulous. The long pauses during sparse dialog were insufferable. The meandering pace of the film was tortuous. Such a waste.
Chernobyl (2019)
Late to the Game
It's November 2020 and I'm late in watching this masterpiece. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, I recently added HBO to my long list of platforms. I'm so glad I did.
Chernobyl is mind-boggling in its authenticity and brilliance. I'm American and was in my 20's when we heard about the disaster. I knew it was terrible but didn't understand the exact nature of it. From the series, it appears those impacted by it weren't given the truth either. I'm stunned to read the many IMDB reviews from people that actually were there or close to it. Others had relatives that conveyed their memories of it. Their reviews confirm the excellence of this series. We just finished episode 2 and we're stunned by the extraordinary nature of it. It's a history lesson that all should see. History really does repeat itself unless we learn from it.
By the way, the lies and deception of the Soviet government reminds me of what we're experiencing with the coronavirus in the USA. Doctors and scientists are trying to get the truth out there only to be stymied by the current administration. Hopefully, that will change soon.
Schitt$ Creek (2015)
Hilarious!!
Love this show! We had seen it win a number of Emmys and thought we'd check it out. What a gem! Most episodes are 'laugh out loud' funny. Others are sweet and surprising as character development is exquisite. We're almost finished with Season 3. It's a binge-watchers delight especially during the dreaded pandemic.
David Foster: Off the Record (2019)
Narcissist
I wanted to like it but couldn't. Our world is full of ego-maniacs and narcissists. Last thing we need is another one. Why was a movie made about this guy? Tens kids from how many women? Abandoned his
mother and sisters after his father died? No one is perfect, I get it. But there's zero humility or wisdom as he tells his story. He admits mistakes but in an arrogant way. After seeing 20 minutes of this, I could care less about his music or the man.
The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez (2020)
Heartbreaking
The tragedy of this story is unbelievable. I cried throughout the documentary. The suffering and pain that this poor child experienced is beyond words. Everyone failed him. A battered child should never be ignored. I wish I could have adopted or helped him.
Ford v Ferrari (2019)
Exhilarating
I don't write many reviews. Seeing this movie drove me to leave one. Ford v Ferrari exemplifies all that's good about movie-making. We were totally enthralled with the story and it's historical significance. There was no shooting, mayhem or violence. One can walk away and feel proud that it's all about American ingenuity, grit and determination. Bravo to the actors involved. The entire effort ran on all cylinders! We loved it. Thank you.
Dead to Me (2019)
I Want MORE!!
Like others. I binge-watched 10 episodes. I couldn't walk away, look at my phone or wait to see the rest. The character development, acting, story, suspense are superb! I am now a Christina Applegate fan. Her depth of emotion is so raw and real. It seems like Linda Cardellini is everywhere and for good reason. There MUST be a season 2. I can't wait and I want MORE!
Busy Tonight (2018)
Hard To Watch
I wanted to like it, I really did. She's adorable and could be funny. I felt I was being yelled at for 30 minutes. She has charisma and talent that should be developed. Maybe it's a lack of confidence or nerve-thing. Her ultra-hyper and loud presence are too much for me to watch. All the best to Busy. I'm sure she'll find her footing.
What Men Want (2019)
Funny!
Even though there are tons of bad reviews, we thought this movie was funny. It definitely has adult humor and is risqué. Granted, it's a re-make and has a few lame jokes. Taraji P. Henson is hilarious and I'll watch her in anything. The supporting cast was solid and added to the hilarity. For us, we go to the movies to be entertained. It doesn't need to be Shakespeare or a classic every time. Anything to escape the current negativity and skepticism in our country. Thanks!
The Upside (2017)
Nice Surprise!!
This movie is funny, poignant, uplifting and worth seeing! I don't understand the negative
reviews. Seems weird to me. At our crowded showing, the audience laughed out loud and was fully engaged. I'm giving it a 10 as backlash to the haters.
We need more films like this, now more than ever. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Bryan Cranston and Kevin Hart were amazing together. Who would have thought!
Holmes & Watson (2018)
Dismal
I never write reviews but I must. Save your money, don't see this movie. There's zero redeeming qualities. Such a waste and I'm a Will Ferrell fan.
