Our Father's Keeper (2020)
Overall well done (altho the ending left a little undone)
The story and quality was well done overall. There were a few words my child picked up on (one use each of ass, hell, and fricken) which went right past me. Some very touching moments (may want to get your tissues). The ending was a little rushed and abbreviated, and feeling incomplete. Yet the overall movie was well done in both quality, direction, and performance. The lead actor did a very good job portraying someone being enveloped in dementia/Alzheimers. Their final Thanksgiving scene together had me in tears as it reminded me of what I experienced with my own grandparent who suffered from Parkinsons. One of the supporting characters also used marijuana.
Steps of Faith (2014)
Vain use of God removed it from out watch list
We didn't catch it the first time we watched it but when we went to watch it again we heard her describe the smell of the manure as "God awful". We had to turn it off. Too bad. Otherwise cute movie. Lloved the very open talk about God and her unbridled willingness to immediately obey what she believed God spoke to her but then it broke the 3rd Commandment that says You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain. This made it necessary to turn it off and cross it off our favorite list. So disappointing. Liked seeing Ted Lange too.
Aladdin (2019)
Nice very entertaining family film
This is often our go-to for a fun family movie. I usually don't like remakes because they usually just don't live up to the original...but this is an exception! Different...yes, but very well done! I always caution my little one about the lesson it teaches (trust someone who lies, and it's only bad if you get caught 😳) but at least the main villain guy is obviously bad, doesn't win, and gets his comeuppance. Otherwise a moral, wholesome, non-offensive fantasy movie with great musical and dance numbers.
St. John in Exile (1986)
You've got to see this!
This is an amazing performance! I was blessed to be able to see a live presentation of it and meet Dean afterward, along with his sweet wife. I know from watching it live that there are no cuts, no breaks, no prompting cards. This man committed to memory the ENTIRE script!!! I am so glad I was privileged to see it. Of course I bought it as soon as I found it had been recorded, and the recorded performance is just as amazing. I can't help but imagine hearing God tell Dean, "Well done, good and faithful servant." 👍
