The Green Inferno (2013)
Exactly what you think.
Eli Roth nails the gore but misses the mark with an unlikeable ensemble of characters that you end up happily waiting for their demise. The practical effects are some of the most gruesome you will see in a movie. Also the acting with Is some of the worst you will see in a movie. Overall the movie does a good job of making you hate the characters so you don't feel too bad that they are being exploited by a cannibalistic eye ball eating tribe of crazies. If you want some gross you out type gore this is your movie. No compelling plot here just tons of bloody murder.
Nope (2022)
Thrilling and sometimes terrifying.
Jordan Peele releases his 3rd anticipated horror movie that mostly delivers. Get Out still remains at the top but this one is pretty good! The movie builds up the suspense very well which leads to one of the best scenes I've seen in awhile that will send shivers down your spine! The pay off for the reveal is done pretty well and the reveal on what's causing everything has a very satisfying payoff! Overall I really enjoyed this movie. All the characters were easy to like and the Gordy backstory was super messed up. Definitely worth seeing if you like extraterrestrial type horror!
Mindhunter (2017)
Terrifyingly awesome.
This show is amazing and worth watching for the cinematography alone! Fincher is always a pleasure to watch and this show is no different. If you are a true crime buff this show is an absolute TREAT. The actors that play the serial killers are terrifyingly accurate! From Ed Kemper all the way to Charles Manson. I can't recommend this show enough! I just wish there were more seasons.
Invincible (2021)
Pretty fantastic!
First off I LOVE the invincible comics so I was so relieved that they were making an animated show. I wanted them to be able to capture the shock and awe like the comics and they DO. The blood and guts is beautifully animated and the voice actors all do amazing. The first episode ends with easily the best scene in the entire show that sets the pace for the whole season. Watching the hero fight and learn throughout the show is a pleasure. Seriously new super heroes wouldn't win every fight and this show captures that realism very well. Overall couldn't have asked for a better representation of one of my favorite comic series! I can't wait for more seasons!
The Boys (2019)
Absolutely awesome.
The boys at the moment is the best show on television AND is a major improvement on the comics. Everything this show does improves on the source material. It doesn't go super controversial like the comics but it does enough to make your jaw drop and question what you just watched. If you want something pulled directly from the comics you will be surprised. They take a lot of liberty with this show when it comes to the source material but it WORKS. All the characters are great and Homelander is the best thing about this show. I would love a show just about him. Seriously if you aren't watching this show you are missing out!
Konga TNT (2020)
A puppet....
The monkey is a puppet. I couldn't believe my eyes when the monkey was revealed. They seriously walk around with a hand puppet in some of the scenes. I honestly have no words for what I just watched. I'm ashamed I watched the whole thing. I brought dishonor to my family and I will carry this shame for the rest of my life. Don't be like me. Don't watch this movie.
The King of Staten Island (2020)
A surprising heartfelt journey with trauma.
I'm gonna be honest I have never been a Pete Davidson but this movie changed that. He brings a lot of character to this movie with a ton of help from Bill Burr. The movie isn't the type of movie to have you rolling with laughter but it is very funny at times. You can tell that Pete is tackling his own issues in this movie and it translates very well on screen. Watching his character mature and deal with his issues deals very real. Overall a pretty heartfelt movie. I enjoyed it a lot!
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
A decently fun but out of character movie for the God of thunder.
First off I enjoyed Ragnarok a lot. It gave the character Thor much more personality and made him more fun then the other marvel characters. Sadly though this movie over does every single good thing Ragnarok did. The plot jumps around and sometimes just doesn't make sense and Thor is a total idiot in this movie. The running gag was annoying and some of the characters that reappeared in this movie display why they should have only been in ONE movie. The main problem I have with this movie though is the villain. Gorr the God Butcher is a terrifying but a enjoyable villain to watch on screen. Yet we only get a few major scenes to enjoy Christian Bales performance! One of the first MCU villains I wanted more of! Overall the movie is just okay. If you want a few laughs and a few cool fight scenes definitely watch this movie. If you are looking for anything deeper than that steer away.
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
The greatest movie ever made.
Emotional and gripping from start to finish, the Shawshank Redemption is the pinnacle of movie making. All performances are well done especially that of Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman. All characters are realistic and done so well it makes you feel like a prisoner at Shawshank. Very rarely do we get a movie that moves the viewer the way this movie did. A steady plot from start to very strong finish, this movie is a masterpiece. A must see for any cinema junkie!
Elvis (2022)
Austin Butler is the king.
A entertaining and often depressing ride through the life of one of the greatest entertainers. There has been an abundance of music biopics lately so I was a little concerned when I heard about this movie but I loved it. Austin Butler carried the film and encompasses the good and the bad of Elvis. Tom Hanks who normally is a pleasure to watch brought more cringe to this movie than joy. Overall a fun ride that could have been 20 to 30 minutes shorter. Way better than Bohemian Rhapsody and a little better than Rocketman! Definitely worth seeing!
