Journey to Hell (2022)
Most powerful movie I have ever watched....
This is truly the most powerful movie I have ever watched.... Christian or non-Christian. This movie has changed my entire life. This is the mother of all Christian movies. Without any doubt. It's about salvation and sparing us from eternal darkness.
Saw this at an advanced screening last week. This powerful story will grab ahold of your heart and soul and shake you to the core! Have you ever seen a 6'2" 210lb man sobbing at a movie? I have now. Sobbing and applauding. It was unreal.
I understand it will be in theaters in July 2022 (I can't remember exact date). This movie is so moving and is an absolute must-see. I got goosebumps especially at the third act.
The whole movie theater was in tears from this touching story. I've never heard so much applause in the end. Not since 'Rocky 2' back in 1981. I'm also planning to go to the theaters again and maybe watch it 4 times that weekend.
So many messages of forgiveness, hope, inspiration, marriage, etc are shown, and you are sure to cry. Jesus went to the Cross so you don't have to go there. Grab some tissues and friends and go see it in August! Must see movie. You cannot miss this! See it like your eternal life depended on it. You will leave changed forever....
China Cry: A True Story (1990)
pheonmenal film
Terrific film that deeply and courageously brought to life a powerful figure in history. it always amazes me the number of 'critics' who attack a film because it discusses God. If 50% of the movies today discuss God, that would be another thing. But very few films even broach the subject. What does this tell you about supression of free speech?
"China Cry' boldly discusses the Chinese communist government's persecution of Christians. Mao Tse Tung killed hundreds of thousands of them - it's no joke. Nora Lam boldly fought for free speech and OK, she believed in God - so flame her.
The day I see one of these 'critics' risk their lives to save a starving child in Cambodia I'll think more positively towards their attacks on Christian/Catholic/Faith-based films. Even Buddhist films get trashed by these immature 'film auteurs'.
What's the matter with these people?
Thank goodness IMDb still allows free speech!
Diarios de motocicleta (2004)
Good biography
Took it to heart... Very good Biography film about an eccentric and one and only socialist Che Gueverra. Very good all around production with an atmosphere more so toward a celebratory retrospective of the artists life. Although Garcel does not look exactly like Che, he does capture the socialist's essence very well. With a slightly better screenplay, this film could have become a masterpiece. Also very well illustrates the irony of life. Only for fans of dark stand up comedy who also lke docu/bio films, fans of Che, big fans of political and road type films and big fans of foreign films.
Very good directing as well
A Few Good Men (1992)
Courageous film!
One of Cruise's best films - they don't make them like this anymore.
This movie is one of the best war movies produced in a long time. Unlike many other courtroom drama movies, this one brilliantly shows that in court, "truth" is sometimes dependent on the eyes of the beholder. One thing that I really enjoy with this movie is that instead of offering the typical lawyer solves case story which really annoys me, it demonstrates to the full the sacrifice and courage displayed by the military and the men and women in uniform. After seeing this great and patriotic movie, I was truly moved.
Really touching film in the end and I wish more movies could be this good. Best film of '92
Fun with Dick and Jane (2005)
Horrible comedy
This movie is an utmost disgrace to the already bad original movie. There's no other way to say it. Jim Carrey is just not funny. He seriously tries too hard throughout the entire movie. He was a terrible choice for the bank robber lead. And I'm a huge Carrey fan. Why didn't I laugh on this one? Carrey is great in 'Liar, Liar', 'Truman Show', but this one was just bad. Carrey's best is when he's rubber-faced or when he plays the normal guy caught in a terrible situation. He was also great in 'Majestic', but this is so bad, we just walked out.
Most Hollywood films are getting worse and worse. Run by 20 year olds who think 'they' know how the world turns. This is a shame for any movie goer.
The only thing I like about this movie is the Alec Baldwin scene, but that's it. It's too far- fetched and stupid. Overall, don't waste your energy or money in seeing this movie.
Basic Instinct (1992)
Passable thriller
Basic Instinct is a passable film. It works both as a very well crafted thriller about a murder investigation and also as a sensitive study about human despair and loneliness.
The cast is top notch. Douglas is adequate and sexy as the Detective and Sharon Stone does an excellent supporting job.
Douglas is very well known for his legendary roles in Wall Street and Jewel of the nile, but in my humble opinion as this detective, he delivers one of his finest and most underrated performances.
Overall, the setting in san Francisco and the 'who done it' scenario provide a brief respite in our very violent world - the real world.
I hope Hollywood makes films that touch on humanity and not so much on the endless thriller we've seen again and again.
Jui kuen II (1994)
Terrific martial arts film
Drunken Master 2 has some of the best martial arts in any movie in motion picture history. The plot in this picture is ordinary and used hundreds of times before. But what makes this worth of time is the legendary fight Jackie vs. His Bodyguard. For me the fight is the best ever topping even my all-time favorite film Enter the Dragon.
I feel like the entire world has been robbed when Jackie kind of retired.
The acting in this film is good. Ho Sung Pak is awesome and should do more films. Its the fights that are worth watching and worth of your time.
Sure there will never be another Jackie Chan but we have his films to keep him in the mix and when we have children his films are the right choice to show to them and find a great role model.
Road to Bali (1952)
Road pictures are truly magical
The Road pictures, including this one, really show a lost art.
Bob Hope was one of the great comedy actors. In all the road pictures, he really shines. Bing and Dorothy are wonderful as well. They make the perfect pair. Unfortunately, so many younger people think of her as some old actress, but in reality, she had style and timing. This movie is the absolute typical "mad cap" comedy that Hollywood did so well in the 1930's. Anyone who loves movies should view this movie, as well as one of the Hepburn/Tracy movies. The thing that makes this movie so special is that you have these lovable threesomes, and are seemingly so intelligent, and yet they can be crazy and turn the world upside down. Imagine: a funny movie without nudity or cursing. Is that possible?? They simply do not make movies like this anymore.
Rudy (1993)
Rudy shines!
Rudy is an outstanding film. It is so much more than just a "football movie." It is a great portrait of Notre Dame Football at its best, The brewing, underdog tensions of the film are excellently portrayed in a very real way. After their initial mistrust and hostility, the players' realizations that they are a team and not that different after all is really riveting to watch, Each of the prominent players has a distinct personality and is portrayed very well. I can't say how great this film is for everybody, not just football fans. I think this film deserves to at least be nominated for a best picture Academy Award, and possibly best adapted screenplay as well. I give it a 10 out of 10.
Sean Astin did a pheonmenal job!
Sleepless in Seattle (1993)
Really enjoyed this romantic comedy
Sleepless in Seattle is undeniably one of the best romantic, poignant comedies I have ever seen. I gave this movie a ten because no movie after it has managed to captivate its audience with its humor and honesty since. Meg Ryan is unforgettable as the noisy reporter and manages to bring an attractive, insightful character to the screen. This film has a highly talented supporting cast, great music and excellent writing. I saw this movie when I was in seventh grade and loved it. As I have matured through the years the more I realize how true to life this movie is. A definite must see.
They don't make movies like this anymore. It's a shame.
Total Recall (1990)
Terrific action future movie
Total Recall really rocks.
The movie promises more than it delivers. The beginning of the movie makes you think you are in for a treat, as the plot of the movie begins to reveal itself, leaving you to fill out the blanks. And everything looks well made, from the surroundings to the equipment people use, as the story belongs to the future. The movie takes a wrong turn (i call it "the Hollywood turn") when it starts to act like an action movie, with really incredible stunts and a lot of computer-animated scenes.Don't get me wrong, it all looks very nice, but since i am a very realistic person it just seemed too incredible to me.
The idea of the movie is good, and you can really relate to it (well at least i can), the thing that bothered me most was, it could have been better...especially the ending where the city is actually on Mars.
The actors, Arnold, Sharon, were solid, nothing special but also nothing wrong, Paul, the director, has his own style, it is really hard to describe, but the actions scenes are not complete, meaning you might see two guys on the ground at one point and then in the next scene they are both standing up and fighting, and in the following scene they are doing something else, so it looks a bit different from what i am used to, but it doesn't make the movie look bad (or worse).
All in all, a solid entertaining movie, developing a very modern and soon-to-be-problematic topic.
Dead Poets Society (1989)
Terrific film I enjoyed very much....
I applaud this movie for its subtle characterizations of the various members of a dysfunctional suburban family.
The depths of this movie reach far beyound the mental capabilities of the common person, and is therefor overlooked by most people and critics. This is without a doubt the greatest movie ever made, bar none! on no level, tech, writing, or acting is there any flaw and I defy anyone to find one.
The poetic language added much and helped deliver this movie's power. All the characters are deep and complex but at the same time totally believable and very real. Add to all of this a moving and magnificent (deliberately simple) musical score, a believable script and clever directing by Mr Shulman and you have a movie that is truly well deserving of its Academy Awards and many accolades.
I have yet to see better. 10/10
Man on the Moon (1999)
Will make you think and laugh
Man on the moon is Carrey's best I think.
This film will make you laugh. If you watch it and like it, then you'll watch it over and over again, each time discovering more and more subtle tid-bits. De Vito oozes sophistication (as well as pretension) as the typical manager. As usual, his humor is dry and his comedic timing is perfect. He makes up 35% of this film's quality by himself.
Jim's character is manipulated by everyone else in the story. His refined egotism is in spite of his oblivion to this, and he makes up another 45% of the quality by himself. I haven't seen a better performance than this by Carrey.
The other players in this film, while very good, all take a backseat to Carrey and Di Vito. If you haven't seen it, by all means, rent it and watch it - you won't be disappointed!
