Born to Fly (2023)

Best movie from mainland
7 October 2023
I love The battle at Lake Changjin, this movie somehow move on top of it, because 1) I like the pace of movie, it seems it deliver what its trying to. I know they added a lot of expensive sfx into this movie, and it works pretty well overall.

2) what's important to me is most War movies from china took place in the past, this one however set up on modern days... and I be honest, too much old days dramas could be a bit too mind numbing, and I would really like them make more present time fantasies or in the future.

3) Yibo is good young guy, i'm following him and see what he will do in future.

Art is only good art when it gets wild
21 May 2023
I'm someone who actually have read a lot of Hong Kong comics in the past, Budda Palms is amoung one of their best sellers locally. For Comic idea movies like this, it's the Art thats what important the most to me,

The movie is overall watchble. I like some scenes in this move, The main dude is good looking guy,

what's missing is what really made these comical martial art movies great in teh past - the action choreography and the Art Style.

Been watching Hong Kong's action movies done by Yuen-woo ping and Ching-siu Tong, By comparison the action in this movie feel generic and Fastfoodish... The special effects are great, it just great but no heart for comic fans.

5/10.

one of my top 3 best mainland movies
21 May 2023
Top 3 mainland movies: 1. Battle at Lake Changjin 2. Moon Man 3. THis.

The first Chinese Ghost Story was done by Hong Kong cinema, it was one of those hong kong movies that mainlander been passing around a lot. (others are like Once upon a time in China, Stephen Chow movies, etc).

They been redoing a lot of Hong kong movies, they sell good most the time pretty good within China. I seen a bunch of them, most of them, Technologically beautiful, but NO heart...

This one, is may be I guess its exception, they follow pretty deeply from the old movies, it did bring me back to past memory a little, its good thing. The main theme song they translated from cantonese to mainlander are great, the actors are good look, the main guy even look a bit like Lesley Cheung.

The problem for most Mainland movies often times they feel like good, just not good enough.

Art is about one thing Ive learned in many years, if you havent gone wild at, you havent succeeded yet.

Chinese war movie with full of love.
21 May 2023
My best china movies so far are the follow:

1. Battle at Lake Changjin (this) 2. Moon Man 3. New Chinese Ghost Story.

Director Tsu Hark is best guy in this movie obviously, his visual is stunning, and full of love to portrait once china's greatest leader Chairman Mao. As a chinese myself, seeing him under golden sunlight is almost like a phenomenon. Hark's narrative to tell a war story is also excellent.

I think the best part in this movie is the cinematography, upon watching the first 5 minutes you can immidiately feel it seperate itself from Hollywood movies ( in a good way). And because its delivering a somewhat 'new movie experience', it did help to build a special feeling to this movie.

too much fast forwarding.
21 May 2023
So far the movies I really like from mainland china (exclude HK movies), are these: 1. Battle at Lake Changjin.

2. Moon Man 3. New Chinese Ghost story (2020)

the others mostly are mix bag of good and bads.

As for Wondering Earth, both 1 and 2 were, in my opinions, fast forward too much details to be considered real good... to a point making it too troublesome to follow and understand what's going on. I think the director is maybe has trouble to fully control all the outcomes in the movie. But I still like them as they're good, just not good enough.

I'm still looking forward to Born to Fly and Hidden Blade, both are movies by Yibo.

The direction in this movie is too "Lame" for basketball
20 May 2023
I think if you are a citizen of united states, you will at least watch basketball at some point in your life, and you know what the basketball community is like, just turn on the TV, you will see LeBron James still playing games this week, with the rap music playing in background.

And when you watch this movie, you realized those charming country musics in the background is not what the basketball community is, they just don't fit.. go watch The Last Dance still on Netflix, that documentary got it right on feeling, when this one doesn't.

This movie feel "lame" , although I'm a big fan of Damon myself and he still great.

3/10.

A Jackie Chan movie, NOT Police Story sequel
13 October 2015
This is another Jackie Chan movie featuring himself, nothing less, nothing more. To call this is a Police Story sequel is a big stretch, it practically have nothing to do with the first 2( or 3 including supercop but supercop was a Michelle Yeoh movie).

The movie itself is alright, thriller elements, fight between Jackie and the Thai(?) guy, Tian Jing who's everywhere now in martial art movies, these are pretty much like a standard in any martial art movies now.

What's wrong with the movie is that, one, Jackie isn't Chan kai ku, that doesn't make sense, 2, the directing.. Police Story was used to be fast paced, self serious ( which this movie is also the case), and insane stunt choreography, it's really the slow pace in this movie that's unsettling me as the first 2 movies fans, it's used to be a HK flick when the people in it are so hyper speed that make their movies also speak that fast tongue language, that's what was unique about HK flicks but now all Chinese movies are just a bunch of Hollywood wannabes.

In general, I wouldn't pay money to see this Jackie Chan movie that's my afterthought after watching it.
