Jean de Florette (1986)
Greatest 2 French movies of all time
This is a great story...translates well in spite of subtitles....I love the characters good and evil sides...you truly begin to hate Ugolin You have to see "Jean" first, then "Manon" 2nd. I found myself quoting some of the lines after seeing it a couple of times. Yves Montand is great. Jean's dreams have elements of greatness and are dumbstruck at the same time. What a screenplay! These are great movies to see if you are a French student or in love with Provence. These are great movies when you can't find anything else at Blockbuster. They can be considered all-time classics. These are the movies that really propelled Daniel Auteuil and Gerard Depardieu's careers.
Can't You Hear the Wind Howl? The Life & Music of Robert Johnson (1997)
This is an interesting documentary.
This is interesting if you are a Blues fan, like I am. I also recommend "Hellhounds On My Trail: The Afterlife of Robert Johnson (2000)". Danny Glover does a good job of covering his life. This documentary has a tendency to propagate the myths of RJ more than the fact.
Hellhounds on My Trail: The Afterlife of Robert Johnson (2000)
This is a great documentary on the life of Robert Johnson
I thoroughly enjoyed watching this. I am a big fan of RJ, Muddy Waters and the Blues in general. It gave some good in-site into his life and death. There have been so many rumors about RJ and this put some of the myth to rest by separating fact and fiction. I knew there was a Robert Johnson, Jr. who got a settlement from the estate of RJ. There was also a stepson, who gave some great input into his life. The Blues researchers and musicians who focused on his music were great to listen to also. I sincerely recommend it for any Blues enthusiast.
