Madama Butterfly (1983)
Extremely Good
This is the film that introduced me to one of my favorite operas, "Madama Butterfly," and, as far as I'm concerned, it's one of the best versions out there. Raina Kabaivanska, though hardly passible as a teenager, shines in the title role. Her voice and acting are stunning. Nazzareno Antinori is also a solid Pinkerton with a pleasing voice, and Eleonora Jacovic is a wonderful Suzuki. To top things off the scenery is quite well done, and the staging is effective. I can't imagine any other filmed "Butterfly" being better than this one.
Live from the Metropolitan Opera: La Bohème (1982)
A Very Nice Opera Film
I've never been a huge opera fan, but I was quite impressed with this "La Boheme" film. The scenery is lovely, and the characters are all well acted and sung. I especially liked Teresa Stratas as Mimi. This video makes me want to see more film versions of "La Boheme," so I can see if any can equal this
