Ripley (2024)
Beautifully Shot
The story does not diverge much from the original material. What sets it apart, is the way it's shot. The cinematography is impeccable. The black and white tone does justice to the underlying dark characters in the series.
I am a huge fan of the ripely movies, but the series format does justice to the writing material. Appropriate time is spent on character development. Beautiful long scenic shots capture the essence of 1960's Italy. Andrew Scott delivers a spell binding performance from start to finish. The Italian cast also delivers, especially Maurizio Lombardi in his role as a detective.
In conclusion, It can be binged watched, but I suggest not to do that, take you time with this one, series like this are not made not very often.
Donnie Brasco (1997)
Crime does not pay the little guy
A portrayal of how crime does not pay the little guy. A true depiction of the struggles of a pawn in a Mafia, unlike the rags to riches stories told in every other mafia movie. Al Pacino delivers his careers's finest performance to make this one of the GREATEST mafia movies ever made.
Iris (2016)
Another good addition to the Netflix foreign movies catalog
Very well made. Good script focussing on few characters, all of them acted well. The director/cinematographer did a good job at maintaining the ambience of the movie throughout the runtime. The music complements the mood of the movie perfectly. Another good addition to the Netflix foreign movies catalog.
Ojing-eo geim (2021)
I don't know what all the fuss is about
I don't know what all the fuss is about. It's a below average show, with average performances. The english dubbing is horrendous, which further proves that Netflix didn't have much faith in the production, didn't make much effort on sub titles and dubbing.
Incendies (2010)
A movie you will never forget
Another great movie by Denis Villeneuve. Great story telling by jumping between different timelines. The story gets better as it unwinds, keeping the audience glued to the screen until the conclusion.
Out of the Furnace (2013)
Underrated
Another great stoic performance by Christian Bale. Great script, extra ordinary cast. One of those movies that can be watched multiple times.
White Wolves: Ghosts of the Arctic (2017)
Captures moments unseen on screen before
I have seen a lot of wolves documentaries, but this series captures some rare scenes. Pure gold content for the whole run time.
