Displaced (2006)
Has great potential
I just saw this film. I understand that it was a very low budget film and one of the director's first efforts. I have to say that regardless of the problems it has, I am impressed. It would have been an ambitious movie even if it had a studio budget. I am a microbudget filmmaker myself and have to suffer commentary from people who have no idea what I'm dealing with. So I want to congratulate the filmmakers for their hard work. It is obvious to me that they were passionate and driven in their intent. That is something that a "budget" can not buy. The rest is gained through experience. There were problems with the screenplay and dialog. Sometimes I think that it was too dry, stiff. The Humans needed to sound a little more Human. I think that the audience needs to get invested on one of the characters more. The lighting was a bit too hot, at least in the final DVD version. It looked blown out in many places. The lighting could have been finessed some more, and the color controlled better. The angles, composition, lensing and camera movement were GREAT. As well as was the editing. The action was pretty damn good for a low budget film. I've done martial arts in my films too, and trust me, it's really freakin hard. I only have one request. On your next film, please no more graphics identifying people and places. You don't need them. The audience will figure it out. And finally, I want to see what this team does next. It is obvious to me that they respect the audience because they bust their asses to deliver as much as they can. The only thing they lack is a little experience. The only way to gain experience is to make more films. Carry on!
