The Book of Boba Fett (2021)
The book of how not to rule and negotiate
While quite entertaining the book of Boba Fett is actually two books in one - the book of bona fett encountering the tusks and overcoming great odds and the book of boba fett ruling his district.
Boba Fett had to be the worst and luckiest ruler in all of star wars. He does fail to show strength, negotiation skills and strategic thinking and the viewer is left in awe about his miseries on the throne.
All in all its an entertaining fan service but doesn't even come close the mandalorian - who also is a poor negotiator.
Brüno (2009)
As a fan(atic) of Sasha Baron Cohen: Very disappointing!
First I would like to point out that I've been a huge fan of Sasha Baron Cohen for years. From day one I was hooked to the brilliant AliG show in Britain.
Then when he first produced his Ali G movie I still found it enjoyable although it was nowhere near the brilliance of the interviews on his show.
Then Borat hit the silver screen and for the first time in a long while I laughed so hard I started crying. The movie represented everything Borat stood for in the Show and went a little further. But there was almost no scene (except for the dirty bag at the dinner) where he went completely over the top.
Now I ve been waiting for 2 years to see Bruno on the silver screen ever since he got his budget after the box office success of Borat. Both the trailer and later on the rating on IMDb where very promising. maybe too promising because my expectations where very very high. I always liked Bruno because he revealed in a great way how dumb the fashion industry really is and that most of them just try everything to be trendy. The fact that he was a gay fashion reporter from Austria used to be completely trivial because the focus used to be on his interview partners.
But whatever Bruno used to be is absolutely not represented in this disturbing movie. Cohen finally went ballistic and made a movie about the possibly most disgusting homosexual character in the world.
I think of myself as an open minded heterosexual that got his fair share of disturbing material in the past. But apparently I was completely wrong. The sex scenes in this movie surpassed my liberal mind and made me almost start hating homosexuals. I know this is totally wrong especially since Cohen does not represent homosexuals in any means.
But boy did I get disappointed and shocked at the same time.
Testees (2008)
The funniest show since Malcolm in the Middle!
This feel good and laugh out loud comedy is exactly what I've been waiting for since Malcolm in the Middle finished in 2006. Testees made me laugh so hard, that I started crying. Especially the episodes "Jellybean Omlett" and "Uber Glued" were hilarious.
This show is crazy and completely implausible - which is a perfect recipe for endless fun. At times the humor can be a bit too much for family viewing so I recommend you watch the show before you are going to view it with your family - otherwise you might feel a little awkward with your kids.
But otherwise Testees is a well paced show with 2 brilliant actors with good comedic timing. And I really hope this show will produce many seasons of laugh out loud comedy!!!!
Crank: High Voltage (2009)
Wondering if you should watch it? just DON'T!
I have rated over 800 movies here on IMDb but rarely commented on them because I leave that to the pros - except for this title I went to see with a friend and his Chinese girlfriend.
at this point I should point out that I did enjoy the first part and liked the adrenaline idea a lot although the script went a bit over the top in the end. So we did know that this movie will not take itself too seriously which was a refreshing change. And we all were open minded for some illogical and impossible action with Jason Statham.
And boy did we get smacked by the abysmal garbage that calls itself crank: high voltage. Never mind the horrible plot, never mind the missing dialog which got replaced by the F word. What I did mind was the racism and homophobia in this movie. According to this movie Chinese people are either sick or twisted or hookers. Blacks are all homosexual and Latinos are cruel idiots. But thank god that our white boy Jason Statham kills them all.
It is absolutely pointless to talk about the plot except that this time there is no brilliant outline like the adrenalin-stops-poison thing we all loved in Crank.
the only fun I had watching this movie was me and my friend looking at each other being stunned by the ridiculous scenes.
Oh and did I mention, that my friends Chinese girlfriend was so disturbed by this movie that she started crying?!
So please avoid this movie at all costs except if you want to study how to make the worst movie of this year.
The Visitor (2007)
Touching movie with a good cast
The Visitor is a lovely movie with a good cast and a touching story.
The story is about 2 very different men. One college professor who lost his interest and passion for life and a Syrian immigrant who accidentally moved into the college professor's flat in new york.
although they have a bad start they overcome the barriers with their passion for music and become great friends.
I have to say one thing about the genre information of IMDb: Comedy/Drama is not correct. This is a 100% drama with almost no comedic relief.
so don't expect to laugh but expect to get touched.
Invincible (2006)
Touching Underdog Story
I am definitely not a big football fan, but i love sport movies with a true background because professional sport sometimes writes the most inspiring and touching stories - and Invincible is definitely one of them (without being cheesy nor over dramatic)
Mark Wahlberg did a great job in portraying the football legend Vince Papale and Ericson Core, hey who would have thought that the director of "the fast and the furious" could create such a great underdog story movie? It doesn't matter whether you know anything about Vince Papale or football at all, its not important. What really matters is the background and motivation of Vince Papale and how hard he tries to become a rookie football player with being 30 years old.
Whoever likes Rocky will love this movie. It is a great underdog story that really puts a smile in your face after watching it.
