Cl.One (2005)
An epic Vision and a Brudin presentation.
I have to disagree with some of the others who have posted negative reviews of this film. I understand that it is not holly wood, and that it is not for all audiences ...
But this little indie gem stands heads and shoulders above many other indie's, and over many holly wood "sci-fi" films, which dabble in the same subject matter yet fail to deliver such a dark and intelligent presentation.
Sure the acting is sub par(yet it is not really that bad), and the direction is not veteran, but the scope and depth of all the parts when they come together as an whole is nothing short of phenomenal, especially when one takes into account the budget that the filmmakers had to work with.
A thought provoking and surprising film, from beginning to end ...
Closing thoughts ...
I would like to see this movie redone like district 9 was redone, and given the same amount of love and attention along with a bigger budget and professional care, then it might get the respect that it deserves ...

Oliver SYCOPHANT Stone's ''W''...
This was without a doubt the biggest sell out piece of "propagarbage" I have had the displeasure of witnessing in the past ten years of my life. While I will admit that the acting was above par especially were the caricatures of the administration were concerned, nothing done right about this film could hope to pull it out of the bottomless pit of vile deceit it was conceived in. Before viewing this mess I new without the shadow of a doubt that Stone had set a new low in film making history. However, having enjoyed many of his earlier films I thought I would go ahead and put my money where my mouth was and give it a chance. I was so enraged half way through the movie that I had to stop watching it quite some time before the films conclusion had come about. I was left wondering how in the world someone who had lived in this country during the past administrations rule could possibly be so stupid as to believe this mess, much less take it serious at all. After JFK, which came very close to bringing out some of the most important details surrounding the conspiracy which brought about the assassination of this countries last great president (a conspiracy which when truly researched places George Herbert Walker Bush firmly in the midst of the whole diabolical plot), I thought surely Oliver Stone would at least drop a few bread crumbs on the ground in his latest cinematic foray to allude to the dark underpinnings of the fascist Neocon agenda which propelled this once proud country down the path of torture and warmongering that has led it to the now nearly irredeemable reputation it has smearing its great history of liberty and forthrightness. Sure there are many a blemish that mar the face of the united states which have come from many of the other politicians which have held office in the past 300 years, but there is no question that the recent Bush administration was the flagship of all the past corrupt political administrations. One can only hope that someone with enough guts to tell the truth about the true happenings of that dark eight years during which the Nazi puppet "W" held office will step to the forefront and shatter this illusion of stupidity once and for all. Shame on your Oliver Stone, you sell out Sycophant.

Abstract messianic symbolism at its best...
If you deplore Christianity or even the symbolic presentation of mostly Christian ideas, even in a science fiction setting, you need not apply. This movie though visually striking and psychologically humanitarian, has very little back story or outright purpose other than to signify the virtue and creative power of self sacrifice. The imagery employed for the most part is obviously intended for the layman, but some deeper mysteries are also represented through the use of some lesser known and more profound symbolism. Every aspect of this film is developed to signify philosophical and spiritual concepts, from the names of the various characters, to the very shape of the space station on which the story plays out, which happens to be the unfolded four-dimensional hypercube. Without going into to much detail, suffice it to say if you do not appreciate abstract symbolism for the sake of its ability to communicate higher knowledge and secret wisdom then you most likely will not fully appreciate this film. That is not to say that there is nothing else to enjoy, as the acting for the most part is competent and the set design unsettlingly claustrophobic and nightmarishly stark so as to create a truly unnerving experience. I enjoyed this movie very much, though I feel with a little more development of the story it could have been much more accessible for the sometimes "profane" and often "uninitiated" masses. Donnie Darko, Pans Labyrinth, and The Fountain are ideologically similar films that may be more accessible and/or more compelling, simply for their ability to be interpreted differently by those with a disdain for Christ, and their better conceptualized approaches, more fully developed plot lines, and larger budgets... 8 out 10 stars!

Gilliam Is Back !!!
God bless Terry Gilliam for his Dark and Brilliant mind. This is the classic Gilliam at his finest. Though the movie was extremely unsettling and reeked of "Sinister Apples", its beauty Shines through in every shadowy aspect. I identify with tragedy, as my life has been filled with it, but the sight of a little girl driven mad has never been such a pleasure to behold. This film will certainly not be everyones Bucket O' Chilly due to the severe nature of the films context, but the insane abstractions envisioned in the eye of Terry Gilliams latest masterpiece will haunt anyone who dares to stare it down, whether they like it or not. Certainly NOT for the faint of heart, prepare to be "Dis-functioned"!!!
