Bong & Donnell (1997)
Powerful look at the meaning of friendship
I knew Bong when we went to the same middle school & high school, and when I viewed this film I got an even better look at everything he's been through in his life. Donnell & Bong are some of the most loyal & dedicated friends that I've ever seen, and I know the two of them have learned so much about life and one another through their special bond.
I was always amazed at how much fun Bong was to be around in school, hanging out in the cafeteria at lunchtime, and how absolutely hilarious he was - seriously, one of the funniest people I've ever met. This film comes highly recommended to anyone who has an interest in learning more about what it's like to face unbelievable obstacles and come out victorious in the end - it's all about how you approach a situation. And this is a lesson I think everyone needs to learn in life. Go see this film. 10 out of 10!!!!
Snow Days (1999)
Instantly Endearing
This movie is the perfect example of what any romantic comedy today should possess. The first thing I look for in such a film is a character I can connect with, relate to, or fall in love with. I did all three with the main couple in this film. Kipp Marcus as James did a wonderful job creating a guy I could sympathize with, and see his point of view at the same time. I wanted so badly for him to get the girl, that when he reached his pathetic moments, I found myself saying, "Well, he's in love - I don't blame him." He grabbed me instantly, and his moments with Alice Dylan (Sarah) on-screen were great also. I think she did a great job and they had great chemistry together. Few romantic comedies can actually make me laugh; I've grown not even to expect laughs. This movie has disproved my theory that most romantic comedies are just dramas with some jokes thrown in for kicks. I actually found it hilarious; the energy Marcus put into playing his role, his facial expressions, body language - I was almost constantly smiling. Bernadette Peters was also a treat; she's been one of my favorites since The Jerk so I was glad to see her face again. I would have liked to see more interaction between James and his friend Mitch, just so I could fully appreciate their friendship. Overall, I'd give this movie a 9 out of 10, and I'd watch it again. Great job!
Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love (1996)
too sweet
I think this movie was probably one of the most romantic films I have seen lately. The costumes were wonderful and although there were some scenes that could have been omitted, overall I think the movie was a success. It makes me fascinated to learn more about India during that time, and not many movies have the power to get me that interested. A great film for a rainy day, or to watch with a loved one... an 8 on a scale of 1-10.
