Kingdom: Ashin-jeon (2021)
Must Watch!
Solid story line. This 1hr 33min episode justifies the origin of the undead. Jun Ji Hyun did well but I was impressed by the child actress' performance. There was a scene that just broke my heart, I did not expect it would turn as dark as it did. But it was truly gripping and thrilling. Cinematography was just perfect. The ending had me wanting more. The only reason I left out two stars was because I had a hard time identifying the other characters aside from Ashin, her dad, the head commander and the leader of the Pajeowi tribe. Gahhhddddd, hope they release Season 3 soon. Or another feature episode on Ashin. The Kingdom franchise is really top-tier.
Busanhaeng 2: Bando (2020)
Entirely separate from the first movie
I had no expectations, whatsover, for this movie. I understand that it's an installation to that awesome Train to Busan movie, but I didn't really force myself to think that they were directly related. Saw this after seeing Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead and this had more sensible scenes, story and likeable characters. Since the majority of the film took place 4 years after the zombie outbreak, I think it's only common that the zombies do not instill that much fear anymore. The people living in the Peninsula are more accustomed to how zombies act. The real villains here are the people. The Captain Seo character was pretty laughable, I thought he'd have a redeeming character arc but he turned out to be just another villain to spike up the tension in the movie. I like how this is watchable even with kids. It did try to pull heart strings but it fell flat. The male lead also had scenes where he looked like a blank paper. Overall, this is still a watchable movie. Entirely separate from Train to Busan though.
Army of the Dead (2021)
Visually pleasing, nothing special other than that
I initially got intrigued about this movie. I liked the premise it offered when I saw the trailers. I couldn't agree more with the other reviews that this movie was definitely well-done visually. The tone of the movie is not as dark as the other Snyder films. But I guess he should've just stayed out of the writer role. Because the story just felt so empty, not rewarding at all. I wanted to root for the gang but I just can't gather enough reason to do so. There's no character depth, mostly everyone just became zombie targets. The Coyote character was promising but they just offed her with a spear. The story was just lackluster and tasteless. I highly recommend just watching this on YT channels that summarize movies, if you're really that curious. I would have done that if I had known.
#Saraitda (2020)
An okay but enjoyable zombie flick
I like the zombie horror genre. I watched this movie on Netflix without any expectations. What I liked about this movie is how the protagonists are not skilled/expert/pros (not like other movies where the lead is a police man or an ex-military or someone with excellent battle/survival skills). It's relatable in a way where the scenarios from when the outbreak started to take over the city, the male lead stayed in his apartment for days. As someone who is not confident with my body coordination, I would have done the same. The story is good, it's pretty thrilling. I understand that there were times when the male lead acted irrationally, but I guess that's just how an apocalypse affects a normal person. Overall, this was a good casual watch of a zombie movie.
