The Only Living Boy in New York (2017)
could have used more wide shots of NYC
Not a perfect film, but a fun watch regardless. As a big fan of Jeff Bridges I'll watch anything he's in and I loved him here too, he's a crusty old writer and his charm is always there. The story...it's a NY story, some twists and existential ruminations by an aspiring young writer (could be a Woody Allen?). But the cast is good and pulls through some of the weaker spots. Plus I like films set in NYC, so.
Army of the Dead (2021)
what happens in vegas should indeed stay in vegas
How do you make a zombie movie boring? The characters are wooden, the dialog sucks. No bueno.
Django Unchained (2012)
oh django
So I love Pulp Fiction and Inglorious basterds, and was really excited about seeing this one, but it felt a bit self indulgent. Just trim the dialog a bit. And it'd be truly great...
The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)
no wolf here
I'm a big Scorcese fan so I'll watch anything of his and this is a great film, except the real life title character this is based on is a vile human being. DiCaprio portrays this role really well, but i couldn't shake the feeling that the smug real life a-hole behind this was too pleased with himself eden though his legacy is defrauding so many. Still, a great flick.
Reboot Camp (2020)
A Cult Film, literally
All you need to start a cult is a foreign accent, a funky wardrobe and a VJJ slide. Oh and a bunch of gullible followers to peddle your BS to. Over the top at moments but I'm a big david Koechner fan so anything with him is a watch. Here he riffs at self help and finds spiritual growth through cursing. OK dude whatever works for ya. The one thing that bugged me were the reality stars. Obnoxious. But I guess that's par for the course..or curse.
