Recovery (2021)
OMG
I'm literally only halfway through the movie but I had to pause it so that I could come here to say that I don't think I've laughed this much at a comedy movie in at least a year. They're bat**** crazy and it's almost nonstop talking and the situation's are just too funny. How have I never heard of these ladies before? I want to know everything there is to know about them! And I feel like I'm on a roller coaster with all highs and no lows. It's basically a road trip movie in the early days of Covid and they're on their way to rescue Nana from her nursing home while their other sister is happily in the middle of a cruise.
Pivoting (2022)
Can somebody please please please pick up this show?
It's funny it's wacky (and not in a stupid "It's the wackiest show!" sort of way). These ladies played really well off of each other. Just now some of the funniest things each did in the show came to mind for each one and I'm laughing from the memory and I'm not even watching it on TV right now.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)
Great fight scenes...
....and that's at least the minimum you'd want from this type of action film. And that bus scene, whhooo! I also loved the mixture of languages in some scenes (I don't have a problem with subtitles). All of the leads are well cast, as are several supporting characters, and the script is pretty tight.
Search Party (2016)
I came late to the party but glad I got here...
Much like Schitt's Creek, I came to Search Party Late in the game. As with Schitt's Creek, this meant I got to binge (seasons one through four) over the course of four days. I'd never heard of the show, I only saw the poster on HBO Max which for some reason looked like it might be funny. It did not disappoint: you want to both root for and slap various characters at different times. The writing, acting, and directing are wonderful. It gets dark sometimes, often right after having you laughing really hard so it's a little bit of a fun whiplash. It does often skewer millennials, although to be honest all of us when in our 20s were basically concerned about the same things; love, friendship, how do I make my mark in the world... it's just that now millennials also document it all online, and seem to be forever chasing that high of receiving the adoration they seek from online strangers and friends. If you can't get what you want where you are, pivot 🙂. Season four was a little bit uneven but I still enjoyed it and all the actors gave it their all. I'm glad to hear there's going to be a season five and I'm really curious to see how they're going to make that transition.
Connecting... (2020)
I really enjoyed this
Is it perfect? No. But, did it give me all the feels? Was it funny? Did it speak to the uncertainty, sadness, and fear most of us have had for a year and a half? Yes, yes, and yes. It was a little like watching Friends, but in the time of Covid. And I really teared up when the Jazmin character let it all hang out about everything she was going through. I know people who work for a hospital, and was worried about them every day. I wish she had been in more episodes. Because hghs and lows are a part of life, right?
