Chaari 111 (2024)
100% copy of Johnny English
Johnny English is a 2003 movie which acted as the source of this movie. This is an almost scene to scene copy of that movie. So its not even remotely original.
Is it funny? A little bit. Why is it less funny than the original = because the original was straight face comedy, while this is an over exaggerated mannerisms over the top slapstick attempt at the comedy genre.
Its entertaining, and has to be watched with -100% brain activity, and the main character casting was quite on point. Vennela Kishore suits this role 100% and happy to see him get the main lead finally. Murali as usual fits the serious and straight-as-an-arrow boss role.
Chang kong zhi wang (2023)
Entertaining, but still propaganda fluff
The movie is through and through a propaganda fluff piece. Intentional CCP untruths being propagated. Movie talks about china being invaded, when we all know china is the aggressor, constantly harassing Phillipines, Taiwan, Vietnam with its sweeping claims of sovereignty over the sea and the sea's estimated 11 billion barrels of untapped oil and 190 trillion cubic feet of natural gas available despite losing its case in UNCLOS. China's hostilities towards India are well known. That china purports to possess stealth technology by stealing, honeypotting, and hacking US defence systems is well known. This movie is just a diversion claiming that china developed its stealth tech indegenously when everyone knows its just stolen.
Bo-ra! Deborah (2023)
Loved it, watching it again
VERY Fun to watch, the ML and FL did an awesome job, the supporting case did a great job too, which makes it a very wholesome watch. Sojin i love you! Dont watch it alone IF ur in a relationship, watch it with your partner, with a glass of wine in hand. You will not only get a LOT of laughs, you will also get to discussing things you never knew you wanted to talk about, but which mattered to either of you. I am so glad that Yoo In-na is getting full on FL roles now. It was interesting to see a Korean drama take on older man younger woman relationship, given how korean society is still conservative in a lot of areas, shows how kdramas are maturing.
The Consultant (2023)
Good/Bad/Ugly is all a perspective
The beginning was slow, I almost switched to watching something else. It was all portrayed as Evil shrouded as Good.
Then it evolved. The good characters showed their evil side. The evil character showed its nurturing and good side forcing ordinary people to accept and show their true selves not by fear or hate or violence. Just by showing them a mirror.
The ending was perfectly open-ended. We dont know who or what Regus Patoff really was or is. Its up to decode the ending, based on who we truly are and believe in.
I loved watching it, and i would watch it again in a rerun for sure. To explore even deeper the nuances.
The Current War (2017)
Entertaining, and would watch again
The movie quite well depicts (barring the known goofs) the time and period, and the nuances of that time. I dont think the director was making a documentary, and any imo, reviews considering this a "documentary" per-se are making a wrong comparison. It is a movie at the end of the day like others. It has its liberties.
The movie focus as i expected, WAS about the constant innovation of its time, the competition to be the first, and how brilliantly technical minds of that time constantly rivalled each other, and yes, did not play fair too. It showed quite accurately that being an inventor at that time was fraught with the perils of time and effort and money, and the importance of playing well together.
Some inventors were simply better at being able to gauge, and meet the expectations of the broad market, and some despite their own brilliance, prioritized quality over affordability, which is true even today. The film shows this human side of inventors well.
All in all, for the theme, and the good casting, a great watch.
