Rick and Morty: Amortycan Grickfitti (2021)
Starting to feel like a losing streak
I'm sure plenty of people will disagree but I can't remember three consecutive episodes in the history of the show that were so unremarkable. Last season episodes 2-4 weren't great but 3-5 this season is significantly worse (IMO). It's obviously far too early to even think about writing off the show but season 5 has been a real disappointment so far.
Rick and Morty: A Rickconvenient Mort (2021)
Letdown after first two exceptional episodes
Were we supposed to be emotionally invested in Morty's relationship with Planetina? They played the last scene pretty straight with Morty crying in his mother's arms. Maybe there's a reference I'm missing but this played more like an episode of Full House than R&M. The Rick and Summer storyline felt like a throwaway.
Rick and Morty: Mort Dinner Rick Andre (2021)
Great start
A great start to the new season and a potentially gargantuan canon bomb: KYLE.
Solar Opposites (2020)
Not R&M and That's Okay
After two seasons it's apparent that Solar Opposites is two separate shows. The connection between the storylines seems to be little more than Yumulack's responsibility for creating The Wall.
The Wall is like a bad anthology movie series that invokes every cliche bad anthology movies invoke. The beauty is, in this format, it works. It embraces the absurdity and creates a compelling narrative I look forward to following in continuing seasons.
The second season also further fleshes out the principal characters. Korvac is the brains of the outfit whose voice bears a passing resemblance to Rick Sanchez. He's much softer than Rick however and frequently drawn into the shenanigans of his partner Terry who wears his listlessness like a badge of honor. Terry may be the most laugh-out-loud character in the series but I have a feeling his voice is going to change in season 3, perhaps sounding vaguely like Morty Smith, given the voice actor who portrays Terry's recent MeToo missteps. The replicants are funny and the whole family dynamic is evolving nicely as the series proceeds. I look forward to seeing where it goes.
I'm Thinking of Ending Things (2020)
Mesmerizing
A beautifully executed story about profound loneliness.
Rick and Morty: Never Ricking Morty (2020)
Not a One-View Episode
This show is starting to require more work than I want to put in.
