The Twilight Zone: Uncle Simon (1963)
How do people miss this?
I have read the reviews here, and many of them state the obvious, that both Simon and Barbara were horrible, unlikeable people.
But no one mentions the one driving factor of the episode. Greed/love of money.
Why does Barbara put up with all that abuse?
Among the two characters' "stellar" qualities of being hateful, abusive, miserable, selfish people, there is greed.
Simon has money and enjoys the power over others it brings.
Barbara only wants his money and is willing to be abused so she doesn't have to be without it.
First she is willing to put up with the abuse in hopes that money will be hers. Later she accepts the abuse because she doesn't want to walk away from the money.
On an even deeper level, you have to think, how many women got into relationships because of love of money over actual love? How many others stay in abusive relationships because they don't want to give up the lifestyle/prestige?
Babylon 5: Rising Star (1997)
The year that was two.
This was the originally conceived ending for the series fifth season.
Babylon 5 was originally planned out to be a 5 season story arc. Season 4 was supposed to focus on the Vorlon/Shadow war only, and season 5 the fight to free Earth.
Both these seasons were condensed into season 4 due to turmoil going on behind the scenes pertaining to the network.
The original network had folded and a new network was starting. The new network showed no interest in continuing the series beyond season 4, so the writers tied up all the storylines, wrote the ending and planned to wrap up the series.
The decision to renew the series came after the show ending aired. This left the writers stuck with no season 5 planned, which is why many feel season 5 was the weakest of the series.
