Beckett (2021)
I've seen worse
Seriously, I don't see how this movie deserves some of the comments.
Was it a great movie?
No.
Have I seen worse?
Many too many times to count.
It was dead average and as such will be forgettable. It's neither so good (or so bad) to be afforded the memory storage which I guess is it's own punishment.
I'm only guessing here but I imagine that this was tied in with some travel expenses for the few major stars that appear in the movie. Otherwise, I can't see how they enticed Vikander into taking the part. It's not 'artsy' enough, 'existential' enough, the director is insignificant etc. So . . . Who knows.
It's worth watching when there's nothing worth watching which is better than 50% of the films out there.
The Winter Warrior (2003)
Worse than a school project
Seriously, I'm sure this is part of a money laundering scheme or a investment fraud like The Producers.
There is truly not one single good thing to say about it.
Vliegende Hollanders (2020)
As long as you don't care about accuracy
It kept my interest, but it strays off from factual so it should be looked at as mostly fictional.
Other than that the series was well done, acting was good, dialog and photography were adequate.
All in all, I've seen worse.
The Tomorrow War (2021)
Entertaining if you stop thinking.
From the very first few lines of dialog I knew that I was going to have to stop asking how they could be so stupid and just watch it for its action.
Acting was OK but there wasn't really any need for great acting.
Writing was OK but there wasn't really any need for.heavy character development.
Special effects were adequate as was the CGI.
I felt that it was a bit stereotypical and made sure to follow the formula for comic relief with.a bit self deprecation throw in.
I won't even get into the whole time travel logic hole because like the title says . . . Entertaining if you stop thinking.
Jupiter's Legacy (2021)
Plotus Interuptus
Seriously, it's not that it's a bad show filled with bad acting and bad writing. It's the fact that you can't care about any of the characters because with all the time shifting you can't latch onto any of them long enough to care.
No, it's not difficult to follow. You're just not sure you want to when every ten minutes is a teaser for the next ten minutes so that you almost feel like you care but then its back to the 1920's but don't worry another ten minutes and you'll back to the present day.
Really, it's little more than a device to string you along to the grand reveal which for some may not be so revealing . . . A cliffhanger for season 2.
PS What's with the horned viking helmets? Everyone knows the vikings didn't wear them.
Without Remorse (2021)
Leveraging a name
Within the first three minutes I was concerned about this film. After five I was dumbfounded. This has about as much to do with Tom Clancy as it does with Mel Brooks and it has even less to do with the book.
Six minuetes in and I knew exactly what was going to happen and how it would play out.
Fine, it's nothing to do with the book or the author but how does it stand on its own if it had a different title?
Meh. I could take it or leave it. The action sequences could have been in any movie, the acting was neither great nor horrible, the dialog was often trite and predictable, reducing race issues to a marketing slogan "We fought for a country that didn't love us back" that comes out of thin air and doesn't really have any context other than being said by.a person of color.
No character development of any sort which makes sense considering one of the writers comes from the Call Of Duty video game franchise leaving one with no other reason to continue watching the film other than to kill time.
Not the worst film I ever saw which is why it received three stars but considering the lost potential it is one of the more disappointing.
Angel of the Skies (2013)
Worst error ever . . . boring.
I simply couldn't finish it.
I wasn't bothered by the CGI but by the lack of good, writing, acting and dialog.
I'm guessing that a lot of films that wouldn't hit the radar are now filling the streaming hoppers.
Lancaster Skies (2019)
Understatement IS the statement.
Started watching this, turned up the volume several times only to find that there is NOTHING happening but a low dull drone for the first few minutes. Granted, that is the sound that multiengine prop plane make but . . .
I should have clued in that would be the guiding principle of the entire film . . . Understatement to the point of boredom. As a matter of fact I started doing other things while this continued to play eventually finding myself hoping that it would just end already.
Sparse dialog.
Sparse plot.
Sparse acting.
Simply too much staring in each others eyes with 'knowing looks'.
