The White Lotus: Departures (2021)
Too many holes at the end.
Adding to some others' points about the flimsy ending:
1) the police release a just killed body for return to mainland within hours, not to mention they let the killer fly off. The entire resort would have been in lock down for at least 24 hours while they investigated the events. 2) our bride reconciles with a terrible groom, who incidentally just killed someone (did she not get the news? Or does she really not give a damn about that? Seems like it might matter. Even randoms at the airport had heard the news). 3) the family doesn't jump off the plane to chase down their son. Not going to happen like that. Why does Hollywood repeatedly bale on any semblance of realism when going for their preferred endings?
Dawid i Elfy (2021)
A nice change of pace - thanks Poland
While the voice overs were of a mixed level of success (and I think it probably be watched in its original Polish with subtitles, though I haven't done that - yet), I thought it was a charming film and quite different in tone and style from typical Hollywood fare. All the characters have "attitude", and since I came into watching the film with something of my own attitude, it hit me just right. Santa and Ms. Claus are hilarious. Nice story and messages. A refreshing alternative to the other 75 new Netflix x-mas films...

Want to call out one thing
... and its not a minor thing. But I don't feel anyone else has quite said this. The intensity of discussion and feeling between mother and daughter in this film is beyond anything I've ever seen in film. And it was so very real. You are a fly on the wall watching two real people have a watershed moment in both their lives. It made me a bit squirmy as I felt like I had no right to intrude. But that also made it fascinating. For about 20 minutes there you are eavesdropping on these two people. And it was two absolute tour de force performances by two of the greatest actresses of all time, that built off each other during those minutes. Incredible.
Bigfoot Family (2020)
Damn good film
Just gotta balance things out here - any movie about how bad oil is, is great for me. Plus it is actually a pretty decent kids film, with some subtlety (at least in the first half), excellent animation and beautiful nature scenes, and great music. Definitely worthy of a 10.
