Eternals could have been incredible, and there are many amazing factors in this film. The visuals are wonderful, the characters have potential, and the director clearly has talent, with some absolutely beautiful shots. It truly is a beautiful movie. But Eternals being a movie may be its biggest flaw.
The characters were full of potential; they still have some potential. But their stories, personalities, personal struggles, inner thoughts and feelings, major plot details, all of it is rushed, to the point where it pretty much ruins this film. Sometimes they just say a character's detail instead of showing it off naturally or within the story. At times, the film and its script treats the audience like we're stupid. The absurd amount of characters in this film is more of a disadvantage than anything. This film probably would have worked much better as a series, or a multi-part film series, allowing it to span its plot across multiple episodes or movies, and in likely six hours minimum.
This movie is a prime example of how important plot and characters are to a movie, because if you don't have that, everything else you have almost doesn't matter.
