A film about the desperate search of two homicide detectives (Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt) for a serial killer who justifies his crimes as absolution for the ignorance of the world of the Seven Deadly Sins. The film takes us from tortured remains from one victim to another while sociopath "John Doe" (Kevin Spacey) lectures Detectives Somerset and Mills - one sin at a time. The sin of gluttony comes first and the murderer's terrible ability is demonstrated graphically in the dark and soft tones characteristic of the film noir. The seasoned and cultured but tired Somerset researches the Seven Deadly Sins in an effort to understand the killer's modus operandi, while the bright but green and impulsive Detective Mills (Pitt) scoffs at his efforts to get into the mind of an assassin.

McMurphy has a criminal past and has once again gotten himself into trouble and is convicted by the court. To escape labor obligations in prison, McMurphy claims insanity and is sent to a ward for the mentally unstable. Once here, McMurphy endures and witnesses the abuse and degradation of the oppressive nurse Ratched, who gains superiority and power through the failings of other inmates. McMurphy and the other inmates team up to take a rebellious stance against the atrocious nurse.

However, all of this is irrelevant to Forrest, who can only think of his childhood girlfriend Jenny Curran, who messed up his life. Although in the end all he wants to prove is that anyone can love anyone.
