The New Mutants (2020)
too bad
I don't care bear.
When you think it can't get any worse, it can. Awfully bad.
The Exorcist (2016)
Finally the legend continues and is actually darn good!
Just saw the first 5 episodes in 2 days and just love it! Being a big horror fan that I am, it's hard to find decent TV shows that stand out and deliver at the same time. Glad this one does. Also, if you loved the original from 1973, you will not be disappointed. The story pulls you right in and keeps you on the edge of your couch. When I first heard of the show I was skeptical. Let's be honest here. So many spin-offs out there that are just weak. So glad this show isn't one of them. I applaud the writers, production and the actors. It has been a while where I just could not wait for the next episode to come out. Nothing then compliments! Chapeau!
The Legend of Tarzan (2016)
The legend of puke
Amazing how 180 million dollar budget for the movie can bring you a movie that one can compare with vomit. This one will go down in history of film making as an insult to all the great actors participating in it. Christoph Waltz, Samuel L. Jackson, Alexander Skarsgård, Margot Robbie. And the fact that people gave this movie a 10 is very suspicious. In my opinion you have to miss some chromosomes in order to give this movie a high rating after watching it in the first place, and second, write a 2 pages review explaining how great it is. Again, this is as empty as an empty dumpster. I regret the time spent watching this and would not recommend it to anyone. Period.
Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2014)
Iñárritu gives free lessons how to make an amazing hand-held camera movie
Ladies and gentlemen. I don't feel the need to praise this movie, cause the awards speak for themselves. In spite of your taste. There are just a few points I would like to add. There are so many movies with similar stories like Birdman, but not many stay engraved in your brain. This movie is one of those.
I think Hollywood picked up on the well known fact that they produce too many -fake- movies. Either that, or, producers feel more free to make movies that really explore the human soul and portray in-depth character development (or demise) of the main and side roles in this plastic world we created.
Iñárritu gives free lessons how to make an amazing hand-held camera movie. Just don't shake like you got the flu.
Europa Report (2013)
tasteless
Do not fall for the reviews that have been written by people who may have made the movie, or had a hand in it. The movie fails to provide to actually be a movie. Sloppy scenes, badly written dialog that has been delivered badly. Tasteless camera work and screen play. This movie is a good example how NOT to make a movie.
Hiring some good actors is not a recipe for a good movie. The director screwed up seriously in this one. Not to mention about the art direction and special effects. With a bit of an effort could have made something even better on my home camera.
AVOID THIS PIECE OF DOG PIE.
The Debt (2010)
brilliant and underrated
When I saw the movie and read the reviews after-wards I knew I had to act immediately. I love thrillers in general, especially when they are well made or told in such a way that it keeps you guessing, or/and glued to your chair for what comes next. This is one of those movies. Just excellent; script-wise, story driven, choice of cast, locations, direction and so on. Usually I do not like to read the full plot story of a movie before I go see it, because it kills so much (takes away) of the suspense for what is going to happen. So knowing too much makes me wait on that info/thing to happen in the movie. There is nothing more irritating then that. Acknowledging the fact that individuals really do know how to write reviews on movies, dissecting the whole thing thoroughly. I advise you not to read those reviews, because they already programmed an opinion of the movie/scene in your head, if you have read it of-course. The Debt is an hugely underrated espionage thriller with a wonderful cast. The performance of the actors is excellent. The story is told in a way as any good espionage thriller should. The climax is not over the top as many will tell you. RECOMMENDED!
11-11-11 (2011)
awful
Just saw the movie and regret the time I had spent to see it. It seems as if the movie is cut short in many ways. There is no decent character development nor pace of the storytelling. In some movies it isn't required because it's portrayed well and interesting. Thisone surely isn't. Being a horror movie freak I could point out every and any scene that could have been made more interesting, as if the movie is made by someone who didn't care what he was doing. Such a shame. There are so many decent B movies in the horror genre that had a even smaller budget, but turned out great, entertaining and enough creepy at times. This movie missed the train on all those points. Too bad for words. I hope the film industry comes with better stuff, not puppets spreading their wings and that's supposed to be scary. Don't waste your time on this one peeps. Not worth your time at all.
Lost Highway (1997)
brilliant in every way
Being a Lynch fan since his movie Dune (1984), where I was introduced with his work for the first time, I have always been very excited what's next he would bring. And he stunned me every time when I saw one of his movies. Only a handful of directors could manage that; David Lynch, Stanley Kubrick, David Cronenberg, Ingmar Bergman, Alfred Hitchcock, Akira Kurosawa. Im not talking about directors that made 2 or 3 epic movies in their entire lifetime. I'm talking about directors who have changed the way, format and concept of telling a story, in a time that was unusual for the time and place. Most of their movies left me either stunned, head filled with questions and/or pondering every now and then if I finally found a connection where I didn't see one. This movie is all that. I will not try to tell you the story of the movie, 'cause I don't like to take away of the mystery that the movie deserves. One of the things I realized early on is, if I read the story on the back of a rented movie, or saw a long trailer of a movie, I would wait for those things in the movie to happen. It takes so much of the movie magic away. Therefor I like to read short plot lines and watch teasers instead of trailers hehe. Lucky me, Lynch's Lost Highway is on the menu. If there was a rating for a movie that told a story parallel to a subconscious story, in my opinion this movie should be on the top 3 list of all time. I'm that serious. I loved everything this movie had to offer; excellent acting by everyone, managed to get a crush on a stunning Patricia Arquette (maybe the most underrated actress out there), scenes were utterly brilliantly constructed (imprinted in my memory forever), dialogs left you always wondering what it meant and I was desperately looking for connections or clues that would give me more insight to the whole thing. For this you need a master like Lynch. I have watched Lost Highway every 2 years since then (but when it came out, 3 times that week) and every time I watch it, it radiates that odd atmosphere. Brilliant in every way.
The Tunnel (2011)
Not enjoyable, no build up, no sense in anything really
We should have a separate section on IMDb for movies that shouldn't have been made, but still made it to DVD or BlueRay. How is it possible for that many people working on a project to shamelessly produce something so cheap, without any depth and feel of suspense. Watching this, I got the feeling this was a parody on horror. Movies like this should really get a ban section. Not enjoyable, no build up, no sense in anything really. The points made by the story are dull, over-clear and cheap. Similar to this movie, or maybe even worse was, The Tunnel 2011. I can understand that it's not easy. Just can't imagine people who love what they do, actually accept the takes and cuts and what not as, wow this is good, this is gonna kick some butt. Unbelievably weak.
Death Note: Desu nôto (2006)
Enjoyable, tense and smart
Like a lot of people out there, I have a difficult taste in manga (and or anime). Been a fan since the 80ies as soon I saw the Fist of the North Star. That movie knocked me off my Superman socks. So when you get older, ones taste develops.
So when I have a show or animated movie to watch I lower my expectations, not to be disappointed early on. If still disappointed, I turn off the manga. With Death Note I didn't have to do that. It's enjoyable, tense and smart. Love the fact how it turns into; outsmart your opponent. The characters are complex and you will find a lot of paradoxes which are not forced upon you. Death Note in my opinion has one of the best scripts out there.
Supernatural (2005)
Finally a fun suspense creepy show
I must admit I was extremely pleased by the synergy of the two main characters. Finally a fun suspense creepy show I have been waiting for since Millennium has quit. I am a big fan of the genre, but I'm not easily satisfied. But these guys deliver the job very well. I hope they will continue to do this quite a few years more. The actors are always very good, the story a legend (urban or otherwise) and the special effects are better than any fantasy show on the TV now days. The brothers are totally different from each other in their way of dealing with things, which creates lot of fun moments Slowly this show is spreading throughout the the world. I even saw it when i was on vacation in Croatia, so its doing well. Keep on trucking guys. Chapeau.
