Obsession (2019)
Some strange reviews here
It's odd that this is reviewed so badly. Yes the film is predictable; that's why it's called a thriller, if it wasn't predictable it wouldn't be a thriller...
So that's not a reason to downvote this film.
The acting is awkward in this film at times; but actually i'm okay with that because some of the actors are acting within the story line, so that edginess i quite like in this film.
So that's no a reason to downvote this film either.
The interracial affair is perfect. It's just enough to be a little bit abnormal, but not enough to feel political. And it was an extra marital affair as well, so it just adds to the injustice of the scenario.
I thought this film was very well cast. Every actor represents a different stereotype and they all behave exactly as the stereotype suggests they will. Maybe not at first.
It wasn't an action film, there's no explosions or gun fire or anything like that, it's just a simple, beautifully balanced film that focuses on a simple story and doesn't over complicate anything. It does what it tries to do simply, clearly and effectively. And surely that's what people expect in a thriller?
It wouldn't be the worst thing if more films were like this. One of the key things about liking something, is there not being anything that annoys you or puts you off. One scene that's off putting, can ruin an entire film; for me there was no bad scene in this movie.
I also thought that the story was quite well written. I wonder if the story had a clear vision of what these actors would look like, or whether it was improvised during production.
Love Immortal (2019)
Not your typical vampire film.
The story is about vampires. I guess. But really it's a vehicle for introducing the audience to more horrific monsters; humanity and globalization.
This is the only vampire film i've seen that i've liked.
The economics is on point, and has turned out the prophetic. It will continue to be more prophetic in the years to come. The horror of this film is that it's turned out to be a facsimile of the horrors of the world we are now film ourselves in.
This film was made in 2019. At the time of this review, it's now 2023. In the years that have past, the theme of the film has correlated tightly with what we've seen in reality.
Donbass (2016)
The "other" side of the Ukraine - Russian conflict
Following Biden's + Nuland's + UN's installation of the Ukrainian government (see Victoria Nuland's tape), there was a brutal civil war in Ukraine, in which the former Soviet country tried to systematically wipe out areas of Ukraine that had a high population of Russian speaking citizens.
This included executions of Russian Ukrainians with their hands tied behind their backs, setting buildings on fire with suspected Russians in there, opening fire on Schools and hospitals. Trying to ban the Russian language, targetting Russian businesses in Ukraine so that people had nowhere to work, etc.
These things were all done by the Ukrainian authorities.
Presumably the goal was to wipe out opposition to the anti Russian Ukrainian government.
This documentary covers some of this.
This documentary contains images of dead bodies, people crawling on the floor wounded after being shelled, and injured people in hospital.
Those of us with good memories, can remember far worse things than are shown in this documentary.
I would criticize Nato and UN for doing nothing about this 8 year civil war, but then when you listen to victoria nuland's leaked tape, this should be no surprise as the UN helped to install the government that started this genocide.
