Halloween: Resurrection (2002)
The night we wished he'd just stay away!!
PLOT SPOILERS AHEAD!!!
Ouch this film was terrible!! The director Rick Rosenthal did the worst and killed off arguably the most important character in the Halloween series: Laurie Strode!!! What was he thinking?!!! wasn't she the driving force for Michael's Killing?! I'm sure the director was looking for a gripping opening in explaining how MM survived H20 (yeah, because no-one would see an infamous brutal killer removing his mask and swapping clothes with a paramedic....)but he failed miserably!! Killing Laurie just put the nail in the coffin of this already tired series - and this was just the opening twenty minutes!! I had to laugh when the students participated in a "Dangertainment" (catchy name...really) production. If you think about this for a second: This is a psychopath killer who is feared by everyone, he is as real to them as a killer in reality is real to us. This production company wants to glorify the past of such a killer as Michael Myers- yeah and nobody blinks an eye - they just walk into a house, and then die (deservedly of course!) Anyway thats enough of that (and hopefully the series!) For "Halloween 9: True Evil Never Dies The Night HE Came Home To Kill A Few College Students" all they need is Laurie to wake up and say: "Wow, i had the weirdest dream that i was in a mental asylum and Michael killed me...hmmm how silly!!"
Jurassic Park (1993)
I'm amazed this isn't in the top 250!!
It still baffles me why this brilliant movie isn't in the top 250 movies for IMDB! it's amazing! I think this is the kind of film that people take too seriously and don't see the obvious reasons what make this such a great movie. For one such as "Jurassic Park" it represents everything a summer blockbuster should be, (and why Spielberg is the king of 'blockbuster summer' movies).
In all fairness, a film like this is only worth watching for the special effects (which still remain top-notch). It is a dinosaur movie- it does exactly what it says on the tin- it thrills and amazes and never lets up, it is perfect popcorn fare and not since "Jaws" (the first proper summer blockbuster!) has a film so brilliantly had such an affect on movies which were to follow. Essentially it is "Jaws" on-land and it does so perfectly, with great pace great set-pieces. I wish this film was in the top 250, if any movie deserves it , "Jurassic Park" does, not just for being such a great film but also for revolutionising films from there on out!!
Brilliant!!!
Any Time Now (2002)
A funny and different look at life in Ireland
"Any Time Now" is a a six part series about a group of friends who have known each other for years. One of them, Nora has lived in New York for a while but is brought back to Dublin for her father's funeral.
The characters are this programmes strong point as they are not as perfect as the Jane Doe's which are featured in nearly all programmes nowadays. They all heave major flaws and deal with them in funny and surprising ways.
It is a pity this programme is so short and at times it can be slightly predictable but it is enjoyable and a good laugh, and it's always interesting. At least it doesn't have girls with red hair and a pint of guinness in their hand while dancing simultaneously at cross-roads....... Recommended!
Jurassic Park III (2001)
Surprisingly Good Summer Blockbuster
As a huge fan of Jurassic Park, my expectations hadn't spiralled out of control like the first sequel but I was no where near as disappointed as I thought I would be. I loved the Velociraptors but the Pterodactyls really stole their fierce and violent demeanour. I was also really disappointed that one key player was killed (JurassicPark fans will know who...No not Alan Grant) by the spinosaurus, but you can't have everything! Great action, surprisingly a good plot and the gore was upped a lot but if only Joe Johnston had left out the "Lets get back together, family" type of sub-plot and this would have been amazing....
