Escape from reality
15 February 2023
I read the first quarter of the book before watching this film. I was really excited to see the film - I couldnt wait.

I love the idea of escaping the real world this films is portraying. If you are poor or from an impoverished background, A parallel virutal life was a brilliant escape.

The book contains far more 80s references than I wanted to see, but the film tones down the pop culture of the 80s echoed in the book to make it easier to connect with the story.

What I liked: Parallel world - VR Elon rich genius giving his wealth a way to whomever solves his 3 riddles about things he cared about

Didnt like?

Characters are not the most interesting imo, but my interest in the background story made it palatable.

Doesn't make sense but the setting and london setting made it worth a watch
12 January 2022
I gave it 4 stars because part of the movie was relatable, like moving from the suburbs to London issomething I personally find relatable. The 60s music, the london life is so accurate, but the core of the story didnt make sense.

All in all its watchable, but I found the point of the story to lack purpose. Others might disagree, but I would have preferred the same character, the same concept of a wannabe fashion designer to have a different plot than a horror theme because that plot didnt work for me so I am giving it a £4. Sorry.

Unfulfilling watch
31 August 2021
The word unimpressed comes to mind. Shaky story with not much foundation. Predictable and unconvincing story. One the reviews was spot being titled"Good or bad writing?". I think what makes this movie awful and distasful to watch is mainly the script.

Uninteresting developments and I oersonally see no potential in it. The movie could not have been better anyways as the story itself is not mature enough to have any potential.

First 20 minutes, it looked like there would be a good story coming up, but sadly there is non. Its not recommended.

So Shocking and so tense!
18 May 2021
I honestly do not understand the negative reviews, make no sense at all. The acting was great, the scenes were well cut, and most importantly the story line is gripping and really well written.

Apparently it was based on real events. It's my second time watching a child trafficking themed film and I don't even remember the other one anymore but THIS I will.

I felt attached to the characters in the film, and their motives throughout. The film really achieves its objective by bringing viewers attention to the tragedies of child trafficking and the drama involved of Police forces who are trying to stop it, and child trafficking rings that are responsible for it.

I don't want to spoil it for you, but in this genre(I am not sure what) this film really rocks and very recommended from me if you care to learn about child trafficking. Peace.

About AI and the problem of values, cool concept, poor implementation
15 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It had some potential conceptually, but it it seemed far fetched in implementation. My original thought was that this Is about AI, and you don't see a clear progression for the reasoning that the AI makes in its decisions.

This actually the number one problem with AI is establishing motive. Having the brain computation power is not impressive for computers, but making decisions and priorities is apparently a difficult problem. Not the best example, but Imagine your own child growing up. Ideally you want your kid to uphold values that you care about, after all you are raising him and most probably will have the most influence on him/her if the relationship is correct.

The AI in this case could go rouge and take trajectory of values that you can't control, leading to the concept of the this film.

The idea is fine, but the films inplementation of it was lacking and not very sound. Hence 4.

Tense, enjoyable, and could really happen
20 April 2021
Great movie to watch during the COVID-19 vibes reminding us that it could always just be worse. This movie is really tense, realistic, good plot, good twists, a lot of packed emotions and turns to keep you engaged. Great acting and a great addition to catastrophic survival genre!

Penn Badgley is why this show is a masterpiece
15 April 2021
Typically penn's actions would have been considered creepy yet somehow I felt rooting for him throughout the episodes. This show for me wasn't about love but more so obsession, self determination, and a bit of psychology. I hated becks character; she was a needy child who was a true hootsie to use the shows expression. Do I agree with Jos's actions? Of course not, yet I was rooting for him. His ability to talk himself into things and justify his psychopathic behaviour is illuminating. Perhaps it's a way to gain power and feel in control.

This show highlighted Penn for me, what an incredible performance, this show was basically all him. Loved it.

Simple, real, unscripted feel, with a good story - Might be a British classic
11 April 2021
One of my favourite films this year. I really rooted for those kids throughout, seeing the relationships change throughout and family triumphing at the end. I felt like crying at the end of this film, just because it made me emotional. Suburban crime film, involving an ex con and his kids after his wife left them with her new boyfriend. The scene is set in the suburbs of England and the story rolls. I loved it.

Loved the movie concept, kept me on the edge throughout
10 April 2021
I just finished watching and glad I did. One of my favourite movies this year for sure. Most movies aren't perfect, so those complaining about plot holes etc etc, don't appreciate how short this film is.

Acting is fantastic, the villain did a great job of being hated. I was on the edge of my bed throughout rooting for our protagonist here. There was some sick scenes of heroism by the "disabled". You would enjoy this.

Passes the time
7 April 2021
It's a short film so that was good because not much going on tbh. The story as a whole didn't make a lot of sense as it wasn't clear what the antagonist intention was from the beginning, however, for what it was, it had some good lines and fun moments where it makes you root for the protagonist in the film.

It's not something you would tell your mates about it, but it was fun.

I wouldn't call this horror at all, far from it but it had thriller, suspense moments in there, so yeah a 6/10 film - not bad.

Referring to the reverse engineered review
3 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Like many reviewers have stated, by episode 5 the hocus locus ruined it for me but I continued to watch and It was an easy binge just cause I wanted to know what was the point of this show. It feels like there are many twists but the most accurate way to describe it is reverse engineered. Self fulfilling prophecy with irrational decisions and some irrational scenes that don't make a lot of sense but the real frustration is just the #Fantasy genre of the mini series. It's watchable and I find the concept of switching bodies an interesting projection but can't lie, I have mixed feelings about the way ended.

I actually never realised that Rob was in Adele's body even after finishing the show till I came here to write review lol

Body switching is the genre of this film aka fantasy

Cleaver movie concept
10 February 2021
Finishing watching it the second time last night after a long wait since I seen it the first time round. Great story, great acting with many fantastic lines throughout that draw so much life wisdom.

My favourite line among many:"Respect is the only currency", relating to a man that sold his soul to get rich quick during the Natzis days, and spent his entire life trying to get it back earning all the respect for work he is done, but does not deserve.

Great acting, and great story.

Deep, Sentimental and Funny
12 January 2021
Truly unique and impressive performance by Phoebe Waller-Bridge. I am not from London, in fact not even English but recently moved to London and I really connected with the sinister dry humour of this beautiful show. I couldn't believe I have not seen it for this long.

I recently met a girl that I liked a lot and she recommended to me. Her mind passed away too, and I saw her reflection in the character of Fleabag. With my humble critic voice, it's deep and an easy binge delight.
