The Brokenwood Mysteries: Good as Gold (2022)

Drag out your gold pan!
25 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
With lots of twists and turns and a healthy dose of misdirection this episode really delivers. Throw in Roy Billing and a guest appearance by Tami Neilson herself and you have a must see episode!

Certainly worth a look (Edit: until episode 3)

A solid police show with a nice steady stream of twists and reveals, the second episode just dropped on ROKU and it keeps up the intrigue begun in the first. Not so complex that you need a scorecard to follow it, yet it never seems to drag or leave you looking for the FF button. I admit to being a sucker for Irish police shows and this one hasn't disappointed. Edit: I have to withdraw my enthusiasm for this series since the writers decided to make so many characters totally unlikable or dead. They had a great start but I think they dropped the ball big time. For me a show needs to have someone I can root for and they've left me with no one.

Old Timey Fun and suspense

An excellent assortment of haunted house gimmicks and great humor make this an above average flick. Joan Blondell is superb and Eddie Anderson's comedic timing and delivery will have you busting a gut! The ever creepy George Zucco shows up and is his usual suspicious self. This can be found on ROKU and other channels for free and beats a lot of modern films hands down.

Strong start, but....
16 February 2021
The show started strong with the expected tensions between Hugh and Penny but into season 3 I am giving up. As with other reviewers Ajax's childish and dangerous behavior is totally annoying. The writers somehow think a character who is blind to the situation his adapted father left him in and constantly shooting something up is a relatable person. From reading the episode descriptions it just keeps going down hill from here which is a pity as the scenery and even some of the hospital action are a real treat.
