Home Again (2017)
Completely unhinged from reality
I'm an Uber rich single mom from a well to do family with a supportive mother and beautifully behaved and gifted children. I allowed 3 gorgeous 21yo men to move into my accessory apartment rent free because mom thought it would be cute. They also learn how to drive stick shift on my dead fathers Classic Porsche and want to bang me so I said ok they can do what they want. I was a bit worried about the situation until they naturally turned into 24:7 child care, chefs, and psychiatrists so I could focus on my weeks long passion of design. Oh they gave me my website too. Then my ex husband showed up and he wanted me back as well he's super handsome too but we amicably agreed on everything without having any discussions. Gosh my life!!! This movie made me want to blow my brains out.
Chad (2021)
Not bad enough to be good.
This show is like being stuck in a room alone with someone's rapey uncle. It's uncomfortable to watch, and not in a good way. The choices made by the shows writer/producer/director/seamstress/actress Nasim Pedrad are undermining to any charm that would make it relatable.
I understand cringe humor, but the shows attempt of teen satire is bland and generic leaving viewers watching an unlikeable character say annoying and disrespectful things, to which none of the supporting characters react realistically. I do think it's attempt at humor is way above most peoples heads, and while there's cult potential here the show doesn't read well to a general audience.
The problem with the show has nothing to do with the fact that a 40yo woman is playing a 14yo boy - that's supposed to add to the awkward humor. If that aspect were made more distinct or amped up (think strangers with Candy) I think this would be way more successful. Unfortunately the role is under acted in a way that makes the choice confusing and poorly timed to today's world. Rather than breaking through any actual social barriers, the show rides parallel to them in its own demise.
This is an unfortunate attempt at awkward humor, leaving viewers mostly with nothing but a strong sense of disgust.
Call Me Kat (2021)
Waste of decent talent
Cringeworthy writing that is so cliche and dumbed down I think a toddler would roll their eyes at the excruciatingly awkward attempts of humor and incessant camera grabs. I don't know how this made it past a pilot. Flat out poor concept and horrible execution that relies solely on sad played out social normative stereotypes. No cast could save this, sorry Mayim.
Letters to Satan Claus (2020)
Hallmark Christmas Satire Miracle
This movie embodies every awful cheesy Hallmark and lifetime Christmas movie and turns the over the top gooey gum drop sappiness of it all into a dark satirical wonderland of comical holiday bliss, while still somehow sticking to the traditional holiday movie mold. Holiday camp at its finest I commend the director on their execution of this, even though it probably only turned out so well because the acting and budget matches the usual hallmark movie film. One for the whole family to enjoy!
Hello Again (1987)
Almost perfect
The only implausible plot point of this film was that the son had a girlfriend.
