The Full Monty (2023)
Could have been better
Sometimes I like to stay up late and watch drama or comedy series that is just for grown ups. Full Monty the film gave me lots of feelings of nostalgia with a crowd I could relate to, so I thought I'd give this a go.
Oh my.
This was crap.
Before anyone says ouwt, I watched the lot. There were so many good actors here especially Robert Carlisle. The cringe factor was through the roof. Whilst I can massively approve in the need for new characterd, please do them well. Can see that there were good actors in there, they weren't given good stricpts. Just look at how 'This Is England' can beautifully play off comedy and drama, but this didn't. There were moments but in general, there wasn't.
Strange World (2022)
A picnic for the eyes that needed more build up
Has to be said that every scene in this film is beautiful and just draws attention to how incredible animation has become. The landscapes alone are artwork that would happily look great on a wall or in festival design. Heard that there might have been some LGBT characters taking a lead in this one and the plot line was carried through as normally as any other romance plot line in a kids film, which was lovely.
One main gripe was that it just went to the highest level with all the animation too soon, so it just became standard that everything was epic throughout, so it just lacked real impact. Was a little bit too talky for younger children so ours just got slightly restless whereas we happily enjoyed it.
Hotel Transylvania: Transformania (2022)
Could've been better
With the delay on this release, we had hoped to see it in cinemas, but quite glad we were spared that experience and watched it at home instead. There was a high expectation on this after the brilliance of the last three, but this one fell flat.
Not only had the lead actors jumped ship but it felt like the high quality writers had gone elsewhere too. With the idea of Transformation, there could have been so so much more! We wanted all the invisible man jokes and Blobby definitely deserved to have his transformation explored more than it was. Just felt like we were waiting for the octopus to burst into song but it never happened. Gutted but ofcourse, it was still nice to revisit the hotel anyway.
Jagten (2012)
Torn between two scores
Just watched this film, and feel like it it has been an emotional ride. Mighty fine acting, a strong concept, very plausible, moving, gripping and that is where the the high rating would come in. But there were unresolved issues, where the ending felt lacking.
Pandemic (2007)
Watch Pandemic during the Pandemic
Ofcourse this is dated and full of plot holes but that adds to it's charm. The characters are clumsy and cliché but it's so watchable. Now we are living through a pandemic, it makes you feel like more of an expert to watch this and say, 'well that wouldn't happen'. It's fun.
Spree (2020)
Influenced
Anyone who's ever tried to develop a brand on social media could find this hilariously spot on (maybe not to this extent). Brilliant.
Zenimation (2020)
Toddler Sedation
You know it's been a tough time when you walk in and the other parent has had to put this on. But it can really help to calm children and their parents alike. Soft blends of visuals and sounds.
Bill & Ted Face the Music (2020)
Every scene with Bill&Ted in
Went into this film expecting to be disappointed. These films are held very dear toa generation and hit all nostalgia feels, so was scared to be broken. But the fear was totally unnecessary, as it was most excellent. The laughs were spot on and it doesn't take itself too seriously (well we know that). Reeves and Winter seem to act through this with love for the films rather than a debt owed to the fans. The other versions of the lead characters were brilliant, especially the prison scene. One character that was slightly irksome was Ted's daughter, just missed the mark on that one, but grew to love her by the end. The end almost brought a tear, partly because of love for the films but also due to the ongoing threat of cinema closures. If this is the last film we see in the cinema, happy that give that title to this film.
