True Lies (2023)
Terrible
I am used to watching a little bit of bad TV every once in a while but this script transcends bad into terrible. To be honest, I only watched it for Steve Howey because I loved him in Shameless. But this is terrible. And this should not be put on TV.
You can probably manage the first few episodes but trust me (from my literal experience of forcing myself to watch it), it is not worth it to try and finish this.
Now, excuse me while I give spoilers to make up the 609 character limit.
Yep, Ginger Gonzaga is annoying, the security is lax for a spy agency, what kind of tech wonderkid doesn't-who hacked the NSA, Israel and Syria- doesn't know how to mask his phone location, why is everyone in the family being introduced into the organization so easily, drugs as a truth technique is so early 2000s core and tbh, I think the writer of this script, Game of Thrones Season 8 and Pitch Perfect 3 all need to reflect deeply before writing again.
Interview with the Vampire (2022)
BREATH TAKING
The story telling. The pacing. The costume. The characters. There is sincerely nothing I can detract from this show if I am to be honest. And while I agree that people have different opinions, this show I have to say is destined to become a cult classic.
Don't normally bother writing reviews and just stick to ratings but the negative reviews seemingly out of nowhere convinced me to. Ignore them. Interview With the Vampire is a BEAUTIFUL CINEMATIC MASTERPIECE.
And now, to make up the remaining required character minimum without giving anything away:
The main character is Greyworm from HBO's Game of Thrones.
Sherlock (2010)
Brilliant. Just Brilliant.
Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. A combination that I never would expect any time I heard of them individually but a wonderful combination at last.
Sherlock is brilliant. That's it. I never read Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's book but those who wrote this show certainly did and told his Stories with the same fervor I believe the noble sir would have in his days.
Maurice (1987)
A Wonderful Portrayal of LGBT Romance
I have struggled severely in finding a good LGBT Romance story. Many different movies have come close giving me a sense but ultimately fall short. This one doesn't. It is beautiful. It is realistic in the sense that it portrays various reactions that individuals have to relating to the LGBT world. Fear from Clive, sacrifice from Scudder, disbelief from Dr Barry and internalized homophobia from Maurice. A beautiful movie.
Label Me (2019)
It Needed To Be Longer.
This movie should have been longer. They were definitely on the right path and if they had developed it past the one hour to like a hour and forty five minutes, I believe this would have been a movie for the ages
Loved it.
The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez (2020)
Will The System Ever Have A Conscience
That is the question I am asking myself. The secrecy in the American system agencies is so much. No one is ever ready to be held accountable for their actions. No one wants to be supervised. Everyone wants to walk scot free for their actions but unfortunately, the system allows it. It hurts my heart that only two people were readily standing for the buy. The teacher and the guard. The guard had to call at the risk of his job(his colleague was not brave enough to) and still, after risking his job, the deputies went there and botched everything. The teacher upon several unfruitful calls to the DCFS tried to talk to the principal who shut her down.
Who really is trying to help these children. The government is contracting out human services contract to a profit making company (who later made that Maria woman lie so that they can avoid liability) who prefer to avoid paying overtime to helping human lives. And while they were prosecuting those two monsters for what they did, the department let it happen again. It is heartbreaking.
This is a show we all need to watch. This is how children are dying. This is proof that something needs to be done. Why are the DCFS so against change? Why is the police fighting the office that is to prosecute the Criminals they catch? Why are police officers threatening children? Have we all lost our conscience? WHAT IS GOING ON???
Moxie (2021)
INSPIRING AND POWERFUL BUT..N
The movie talks about a lot of themes that are avoided in mordern day conversation and I will give it props for that. But unfortunately,it follows a very regimented teen movie timeline. It is like watching radio rebel all over again. Loved it and it is packed with the right message but I wish it could have been written better.
Django Unchained (2012)
Watch Without Expecting A Lesson
This is quite an addictive movie. Almost three hours flew by as I was watching and I barely noticed.
But if you are here expecting a good take on slavery, you will be disappointed. If that is what you need 12 years a slave will be better choice. The truth is that the movie is full of action, will get your attention easily but if not the go-to movie for slavery.
Gewoon vrienden (2018)
THIS MOVIE NEEDED TO BE LONGER
Truthfully,I enjoyed it quite a bit. Bit it is ultimately a bit shallow and rushed. The fallout they had made no sense, the characters were blandly undeveloped and had no depth. But I won't blame them. That is what happens when you try to fit what should be a probably two and half hours film into one hour and twenty minutes.
Yad and his mum should have had a more in depth conversation about why he left school. How did they feel about it. The mini argument they had could have built up to more. Who even is he. All I can see is a party goer who left the big city and returned to his hometown. Why. They are refugees, how does it affect his life?
How did Joris really feel about his dad dying. Why is Joris' mum so cold. Someone who was so vulgar and discriminated against Yad was quick or accept that the son was dating him. His sister,Moon might as well not have been included in the movie. Even if we don't want to learn about her,she should have given some depth to Joris. And for a main character who is so torn up about his father's death,I seem to know nothing about the said father or Joris misses him so much.
The characters are heavily bland. The grandmother,Ans, is the only character with life in this movie
They could have done far better
Half of a Yellow Sun (2013)
Terribly Disappointed
If they wanted to capture the war, they should have made a documentary. The novel captured the life of the "People" living through the war. That is what the movie failed to do
Only Kainene(Anika Nani Rose) and Richard( Joseph Mawle) performance in this movie are of note. Olanna( Thandie Newton🙄) was a disaster. Never will I watch a Thandie Newton movie again. Odenigbo(Chiwetel Ejiofor) was average at best and the character of Ugwu(John Boyega) was assassinated. Love the book. The movie could have been better. I wish Genevieve Nnaji( The lady who acted as Lara Adebayo) had acted Olanna. She would have done a far better job. Read the book. It is the true masterpiece
Boyhood (2014)
So Unremarkable and Boring
This movie was recommended to me after watching the masterpiece that is "Moonlight". Was not worth it. Boring, just giving a little props for telling a realistic story but nothing remarkable happens. Bad choices were made, boo hoo. Everyone makes those in a while. The movie ended up being a waste of time. Over hyped.
