Hannah Gadsby: Douglas (2020)
Dreadful
Utterly awful, not in any funny, cringingly pretentious and ultimately unwatchable.
Hannah Gadsby success is just propped up by the politically self righteous and I even question how they can actually find this funny or whether its just fake laughter intended to show support for her opinionated lectures.
Its mind-boggling how she unsubtly keeps reminding the audience how good she is whist consistently showing absolutely no talent.
Has she said "If you don't like it, don't watch it", the vast majority will not like it so save yourself the frustration and boredom by skipping to the 'don't watch it' part. Hopefully this way her 'acts' will soon be forgotten and Netflix can replace whatever this is with actual proper comedians with real comedy to offer. 0/10.
The Pope's Exorcist (2023)
What possessed them to make this?
This is one worst 'horror' movies I have ever witnessed. The most frightening thing about it is Russell Crowe's dubious Italian accent and to say that the Spanish inquisition and the child sex-abuse scandal's were the work of demons that infiltrated the Catholic church is appalling. Ridiculously childish effects, annoying characters that I didn't care about, in fact I would have rooted for the demon but the young kid just made me cringe so much when he was possessed by the spirit of bad voice-over actors. Also the priest's act more and more like superhero's towards the end. I would not be surprised if this film had been funded by the catholic church to try and improve their image in a modern times.
Tales from the Loop (2020)
It won me over in the end
It's a difficult series to put into words and I agree with some of the reviews, in that it can be quite melancholy and occasionally drawn out but really worth watching the whole first series through to its entirety.
The show is void of any pantomime evil villains, more just human faults combined with some very peculiar circumstances. It can be emotional but also philosophical and as similarities to 'Dark', although ultimately I think I preferred this.
I would definitely watch a second series. The last episode 'Home' left me stunned and considering Jodie Foster's work on Black Mirror. I will be very interested to see what else she does in the future.
Mid Morning Matters with Alan Partridge (2010)
Fantastic radio presenter satire & comedy.
I recently re-watched the second season and had to keep regularly pausing so I didn't laugh over other parts of the show. I sometimes find 'cringe comedies' painful to watch on occasions but Coogan's Alan Partridge can do it to perfection. I enjoyed 'Knowing Me Knowing You' but this doesn't contain any canned laughter, which benefits the more subtle moments of humour.... "Do you know what one of the biggest killers in society is?" .."Harold Shipman?", "No obesity!"
