Legend of the Roswell Crash (2023)
Watch any other docu other than this one on the topic
It's like this guy watched one 2 minute preview to 1 documentary about Roswell then decided to make his own badly done "movie". This is the worst "documentary" on the subject I have ever seen. This guy is using footage from every other documentary on UFOs or Roswell then splices all it together with his badly done commentary. His commentary is wrong most of the time. If I had known this is what this was -I would NOT have rented this. It's bad. Like really bad. I don't even know how this "movie" got made. But I guess I'm the one dumba$$ that paid for this. Should have watched an actual documentary by someone who knows what they are talking about. There are much better docu's out there on the topic this is not one. It's like I'm listening to my mother explain what Roswell was and she doesn't have a clue. Oh He also tries to tie in the history of UFOs just to stretch this out for an hour. It's not even one of those it's so bad it's kinda good- NO it's just BAD! Dude seriously. Awful. I'm shocked this wasn't something I came across on YouTube it's that bad.
So that's my review - if I'm gonna get my monies worth on this rental -I thought I'd better review this pos. Oh...did I mention how bad this was... LOL.
Don't bother. Don't fall for it cuz it's "new". I'm kinda ticked I wasted money on this.
Supercell (2023)
Really... just watch Twister.
I always have high hopes for movies like this. But obviously they didn't talk to real people who do this for a living, must have watched HALF of Twister for vocabulary, then did a horrible job. If you're going to use terms make sure they're right. I lived Thru what Baldwin called "gorilla hail". No one uses that term- EVER. Trust me. It destroys your car way more, than one side of the windows and a couple dents. It's usually referenced as baseballs or grapefruits and it totals everything it hits btw! There's like a foot of it that stays around in 100F temps for 24 hours or more. It just doesn't instantly disappear that quickly when it happens then you get out to see what actually hit you. There will be piles on the ground. Sorry jumped ahead here.
I was so confused with the filming under 1-90 signs. It became distracting. Like your in liberal KS... oh no, it's Texas... wait no....oh no it's not .... Tell us where you filmed without telling us where you filmed this. Because I-90 runs from coast to coast, east to west, in the northern part of the USA from MA thru MT to the pacific. Not anywhere near TX. Like this movie is that bad. Buy some I-40 signs at least. You were supposed to be in the panhandle, right?! Had to rewind those to make sure I saw that right. So I knew this had to be the way northern plains almost to Canada just from that.
If you have ever watched real storm chaser shows/docu's, you're going to hate this. The only place or any person I have heard use "the finger of god" is a character on Twister. It's not even on our National Weather Service list of vocabulary for storm chasing. I checked. Because I wanted to know about "gorilla hail". Lol. Just use grapefruit or something real. It just drives me nuts when there are big actors, they make references to twister early on, even reference Bill Paxton, and then they ran out of budget so they couldn't even make a decent movie. It's confusing the places they say they are going and then they couldn't film in the panhandle of Texas - really? Then this concept Thru the entire movie with the "device" this kid has. What is that? What does it do? Cuz they did a crap job explaining the entire premise of the movie. Very, very confusing. They act like this kid knows things inherently because of his family, show his room covered in research, but he doesn't really know anything at all. Even tho he's in college (? Also confusing is it High school or college?) but science classes also teach kids basics about weather. I knew the basics at that age just from that. This kid doesn't even know what a storm is? I mean at least movies, like Twister b/c that's what they are going by here, even tho it's old tech - it was something that people were actually trying to do/to study back then to solve the mystery of supercells/tornados. I just think people are smarter than this. Hollywood thinks everyone is really dumb now. We have super computers in our hands. And most people know things like I-90 is not in Texas. (We have I-10 on the coast, up to i-20/I-30 and 1-40 in the panhandle.). It's just lazy. If you're buying signs that say Texas state line - buy the right interstate signs. It was more about the messed up family dynamics than it was about supercells. Wizard of Oz had better tornados and that was in the 40's. It just chafed me when the kid picks up one man's sized hand hail stone off the ground1 sorry gorilla hail size hail. (It's laughable). And there were some scattered ice cubes on the ground- like a bag of ice from 7-11. Knocked out windows on one side of the car, missed the hood some how and there was nothing on the ground?? People die in storms like this. They lose everything. Even hail like we had in 2012 totaled everything we own. Our house was standing but everything from 100 yr old trees/ other foliage/plants, furniture, to cars to roofs/windows, businesses - TOTALED. 1.5 - 2 mile radius of everything totaled in our community. Not to mention all the people who have survived tornados- no sorry- "the finger of god". So don't insult people. It's supposed to be about storm chasing. It's supposed to be about a "supercell" - hence the name. It's not named grieving widow restricts rebel kid from knowing anything about the father who died in a supercell. Just do better Hollywood. People aren't stupid anymore. Make something somewhat legit. Especially when it has to do with topics that actually kill people.
So I'll give the advice in my subject line. If you have a storm movie itch ..... Just watch Twister. Tech might be old, some of it may be cheesy, but the tornados are fantastic looking, the acting is great, it's just a classic. In my humble opinion- it's STILL the best movie anyone has been able to make about this subject... ever. And why storm chasers still make references/pay tribute to Bill Paxton. And got a whole generation into storm chasing that changed actual warning systems and the real science of supercells.
Do better Hollywood.
The Assistant (2019)
Been there, done that, got the severance
This couldn't be more spot on to so many people in abusive type of jobs. That you don't even realize how much you are getting manipulated and desensitized to the sick environment people in power take advantage of. Where you're thankful at the time just to keep your damn job. It's so well acted and so well written.. I can see myself in this assistant character. So may times. Worked for a megalomaniac perv just like this. It hits pretty close to home. The tension can be cut with a knife. The acting is so well done. So many things left unsaid. It's not even film industry this happens in. It's across the board. Hadn't heard of this before and not even that far in. It's fantastic and can't wait to see where this is going. I hope she gets him good. Fife it's a watch. Totally worth it.
Amish Witches: The True Story of Holmes County (2016)
So bad
I found this on discovery plus and knew it was fake before it even started. To find Amish - true Amish -in Holmes county who are willing to be filmed is not really a thing. I'm from that area. The Amish have a very specific accent that they didn't even bother having the bad actors replicate. So another indicator. It's so bad I don't even know how it got the rating it did. And married Amish have a beard. No mustache. Never understood the movie producers who think adding true story to a movie when it's not was ever cool. It just makes me turn it off immediately. Don't bother. It's not even a good Blair witch spoof.
