Shôgun (2024)
7 episodes in and nothings actually happened !
Began with promise, and appeared to be heading in to the story similar to "the last samurai". Sadly however by the end of episode four and as each hour dragged on of the show it became evident that there was little development of the storyline and series. People talking, someone's getting impeached, people shouting, more talking, bit of travelling somewhere, more talking, listen to the rain, 7 hours later, still nothing has really happened. It's just so incredibly boring it nearly put me to sleep. Story feels like it's so slow, the story will come to a stand still. Can't believe this had a 9/10 rating originally ! The food news is it's beautifully shot and has nice music to it.
Late Night with the Devil (2023)
Overhyped.
Don't be fooled by the high rating this is nothing special. The premise for the movie is a failing talk show hosts desperation to improve ratings by creating a talk show based around devilry. What follows is exactly what you expect. There's some mediocre performance of a medium, then a girl is brought out who's been possessed and kills everyone at the end. There really isn't much more to it than that. It doesn't leave anything to the imagination. It isn't scary, or questionable whether here was actually a demon. It's just too predictable. It is entertaining however and an easy watch. The acting is excellent and the movie makes it seem as if something is round every corner. Sadly though the only thing round the corner is exactly what you think it is. Just like any other predictable horror.
Ripley (2024)
Absolutely HOOKED!
Once in a while a series or film is released and you know instantly it's a masterpiece. Doesn't matter if you've seen the film or don't like black and white screenplay, this will have you gripped by the third episode, drawn in and binge watching until the very last scene!. It's dark and unrelenting undertones as well as the absolutely stunning cinematography draws you in, grips your soul and won't let go. The story follows the film closely but with more vigour, depth and grit than the previous film. All of the characters play an intense and impeccable masquerade of cat and mouse. Would thoroughly thoroughly recommend.
Saltburn (2023)
Talented Mr Ripley with shock value.
When you start watching this film you really do start getting flashbacks to TMR. Lower class wannabe meets and gets taken under wing of upper class, head in the clouds, pie in the sky individual.
Audience gets taken in to a story of seduction, suspicion and shocking events that unfold which ultimately leave the final narrator to reveal the ending.
As it gets towards the end however the plot starts to fall apart with more holes than swiss cheese and more questions asked than answered.
The thing that carries this film is the brilliant cinematography, the exceptional music and the acting and pace in which it moves.
Watch it be shocked by it...then probably forget it..
Muscle (2019)
Ridiculous ending
This film is brilliantly shot, with a great music score and intense and brilliant acting.
Sadly what It makes up for it massively lacks in story. A middle aged man who works a dead end telesales job decides to start the gym. First reason this story makes little sense is his girlfriend decides to leave him shortly after this. Surely I would imagine she'd be happy he was more active and taking care of himself. Secondly he's trained by a massive meat head psychopath who pretends to be a personal trainer. He doesn't realise this at all until toward the end of the film.
The psychopath ends up moving in with him, then reveals he's sort of gay and ends up coming on to him. He then gets wasted and shouts his entire plan for setting him up on a drug score in France.
The dude who now knows he's set up doesn't go to France he decides to go to the police. He then goes and looks for psychopath and can't find him.
THE END !
Manifest (2018)
I feel like I lost 5 and a 1/2 years of my life after watching the first few episodes!
After this show was recommended from someone at work, the way it was described sounded like the next lost, The show gets off to a relatively promising start, but the show does then begin to to err on the side of soap opera vibes with more conflicting emotional drama and less about how a load of people ended up losing half a decade of their lives in a few hours after a bit of turbulence on a flight from Jamaica. Only a few episodes in though so will give it a bit of a chance. Just have to ensure that if you're watching you have some patience. Lets hope that the next few episodes start to bring some answers.
The Covenant (2023)
Great film.... Until about 1.5 hours in
Film starts off great and is beautifully shot with fantastic music, suspense and awesome cinematography. Jake Gylenhall and team are out looking to shut down the taliban, it all goes awry when his team ends up being attacked. Of course only he and interpretor escape. The film then switches to one of survival whereby the interpretor carries an injured Jake/John across Afghanistan on foot! Back to his base. All while being chased by the taliban. Jake/John is then sent back to the US and leaves the Interpreter to fend for himself while being hunted constantly by the taliban... Here's where it gets EXTREMELY dumb. John then decides to travel BACK to afghan and finds the interpreter, he goes and visits the interpretors BROTHER who TELLS HIM WHERE HE IS and says the only reason he wasn't tortured was because he does business with them... I mean how dumb are these people, looking for a guy for ages but don't think to monitor his BROTHER.. John then travels freely through afghan finds him... Gun fight... The end!
The Consultant (2023)
Christopher Waltz good.. The rest.. Bad..
There's a really intriguing undertone the whole way through that never seems to come to light. Why did he show up? Why do people do what he wants? What's the whole point of the friggin show!
Aside from getting not many answers there's some great acting and the shows addictive to watch. Go amazon.. Ps I have to write a further 275 characters in order to be able to post this so thats what Im gonna do.. I'm gonna post those characters like I've never posted before and hope that eventually I can get to the required amount before having to stop. Peace and love to everyone put there and stay safe... Covid negative safe.
X (2022)
Don't expect and you won't be dissapointed!
Saw this film middle of the week without any real high hopes and was pleasantly surprised.
A group of friends travel to remote location to shoot a porno... Things then take an unexpected turn for the worst.
The cinematography is excellent with a soundtrack that runs alongside it well for a slasher flick.
Yes! The storyline is predictable
Yes! The acting is somewhat lacking in certain places.
Yes! The film is mediocre and at times disturbing for the sake of being disturbing. Or Gorey for being Gorey.
But if you want to put your feet up, unwind watch a film with a bit of everything, fright night horror with sex, humour, violence and gore you've come to the right place.
Superbad (2007)
ABSOLUTLEY BRILLIANT!
The chemistry between Hill and his mates as they try to buy booze to impress some girls reminded me so much of the old days being young when all the stupid stuff didn't matter but you thought it did.
The cops who allow mclovin on for the ride along are absolutley brilliant. Well well well worth a watch!
Dumb and Dumber To (2014)
Atrocious.
Terrible acting WAY over the top comedy and just ABSOLUTELY NOT FUNNY.
original D&D hilarious, great story with believable characters. This is avoaluts GARBAGE.
The Sound (2017)
What.... A load.... If CRRRAAAAAP!!!!!
Turned out lights, lit candles, put this tripe on... Was so unbelievably BORING I nearly fell asleep. Story sucks, acting sucks, EVERYTHING sucks.
Polar (2019)
Save yourself the trouble and watch something else.
This movie is so boring. The weak story just drags on and on and ON We get it, he's a hit man who's retired, we get it there's people looking for him.... THAT'S IT!
Thats pretty much every scene for 1.5 hours.
The Canal (2014)
Not bad but not good.
Whether it's the unbelievably poor acting or the incredibly slow pace you can't help but feel something is lacking in this film.
Possibly that it takes ages to evolve to something that could or should take about 20 minutes. Guy and wife buy house and have kid, wife starts having affair (yeah didn't see that one coming) wife ends up dead...this is where it starts to get wierd... There's pretty much no sadness from the husband or child and he spends more of his time freaking out over ghostly nightmares and visions regarding murder... So is this a whodunit? Is it a horror? Is it a thriller? Watch it and be impressed or bored to tears.
The Boy Next Door (2015)
It could have been so much better...
Not a bad plot, vulnerable woman makes mistake with hunky dude next door and he turns out to be a total and utter psycho.
In the Tall Grass (2019)
Horror doesn't come much worse than this!
This isn't a horror, it's irritating tripe without much of a script other than "hello, help me, I'm lost and, BECKKYYYY!" From done dumb arse people who walk into a field HOW UNBELIEVABLY BORING!
Believe me, if you wants horror this isn't it.
Lavender (2016)
Something missing. Felt flat.
I wanted to like this movie, I really did. But despite watching on a cold windy rainy evening even with the lights off I just wasn't scared ever. I think the issue was the film just didn't really get off the mark and therefore just felt frustrated at watching some woman walk around experiencing random things. By an hour in I was so bored I clicked to see I was only halfway through and gritted teeth and bared the rest of it..
Big Fish (2003)
Amazing on so many levels
This film conveys a deep underlying message that we should never lose our imagination.
Session 9 (2001)
If you're looking for a horror film, this is not it.
A cleaning crew is set to rid a mental hospital if asbetos.
That is literally the scariest part of the film..
As the film progresses however it does get slightly better but we're talking right at the end...
Hannibal (2001)
Major plot holes with gross effects.
I'm all for entertainment and it not being real life, but when a man who is on the top 10 FBIs most wanted list can escape from a maximum security prison, fly to Europe to live a life of luxury with no money or job, kill a bunch of people in Broad daylight, chop off his own arm then simply get on a commercial airliners with no disguise and a peice of brain that he feeds to a little kid I have to wonder why anyone can class this as entertainment.
Creed II (2018)
Another crud film from sell out stallone.
Acting is the WORST!
Storys Predictable.
Comedy scenes aren't funny.
Boring.
Fightings not bad.
