Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire (2023)
Great movie! Almost missed it because of negative reviews
The movie is entertaining, captivating. The story is not weak. The characters are great. Very good special effects and super fighting scenes. Each of the main characters are bringing their backstories and those are also very good. Yes, it's somehow like Star Wars but in a good way.
So, you really need to start the tv and watch the movie for yourself. With all those other negative comments I was convinced not to watch it. I didn't want to see something like Gen Z empty talk and robotic actors without face expressions and emotions like the reviewers said they were. But in the last moment I decided to actually start the movie and see for myself how it goes.
It's a very good movie! Bring the popcorn!🍿
Umi ga kikoeru (1993)
This is really a beautiful story
I believe that many of the other reviewers are analyzing too much the movie, the characters, the producers etc
Many of the points are well observed but I think that as a viewer you just need to enjoy the movie. Too much analyzing is ruining the experience.
It's also nice the atmosphere where they are talking on a fixed, wired telephone. Those times where somebody in the family was calling you out to take a phone call or when you wanted a photograph you purchase it from somebody who had a film camera.
What the characters felt or did it's just part of the story. Maybe I would like the movie to have been a bit more colorful and the characters more detailed but it's beautiful just as it is.
Enjoy!
Så var det jul igjen (2023)
Funny movie that can be watched by the whole family
Not so many clean Christmas movies (not falalala or Lifetime) that can be watched together with children nowadays. (except for the ones before 2000's). This movie is a funny comedy and touches good points regarding social and cultural differences.
I don't see the big fuss with all the offended people. It's a trend these days to be offended about all kinds of things anyway.
This movie shows how people from different backgrounds can come together and enjoy the best experiences from their heritage. You don't have to like everything but there are good and interesting parts that you can choose from most of the time.
This movie has one line that is inappropriate for children. The Indian guy says at some point to his girlfriend that he can have sex with her mother if that is what it takes for her to like him. Ehhh. Funny for adults, awkward for children.
Saui Chanmi (2018)
Well, not as inspiring. While others praise highly this movie I believe that is it fundamentally FLAWED
I like the actors, especially the leading roles. I believe that they are beautiful and charismatic. The setting was nice, the costumes and it was an interesting period drama.
Now the downers. The love story was too stretched. And the whole thing started with the guy being dishonest in the first place!!! Why nobody from all the other reviews stated that?!? I guess it's a cultural thing. Different background. Well, the guy is married- yes, arranged marriage, but still a marriage! So, he's having his wife back home in Korea and he is leading on a young college student who is a bit too pushy and naive for her own good. The guy is playing like all nice with restraint - a guy that woman will love but most guys will punch him in his face. He's a weak male character full of himself and full of pity for his situation . "Poor " guy he's rich and misunderstood. He will not write because... it's all in his head. Meanwhile the college student female character falls in love with him and he's not telling her anything. He just waits for her to be invited to his luxurious house then come face to face with his wife! And he's still playing the misunderstood guy, all lovable and full of sentiment.
Duh! 🙄
So I let them be without watching the actual suicide. Anyway the whole idea with the suicide is totally wrong . It leads people to believe wrong things.
A Boy Called Christmas (2021)
Just a really BAD wannabe Christmas movie
This is a boring movie. It's not for children and it's not a Christmas family movie. It's hard to imagine someone actually enjoying this movie. And that boy - the supposed Father Christmas 🎅 - to be- it's simply awful; it's hard to emphasize with him. I didn't like the elf's village- Elfhelm. Watching those "merry elven people" partying and dancing seemed somewhat grotesque and definitely fake. I couldn't stop thinking "who in the world would like to spend time here - in the happiest place on earth?" (Elfhelm not Disney parks) Christmas movies should bring some magic ✨ ... something special. The Truth Fairy was annoying, the elf's leader a mix of Maleficent and stupidity, the stolen "elf" just a small Indian boy - because we're all for diversity nowadays.
And the plot with Nikolas's dad - annoyingly called "papa" over and over was totally unrealistic - in the bad way. And the story with the king that wanted something "hopeful" - another failure.
Miseuteo Shunshain (2018)
Too slow paced
Maybe for Korean standards the series went good and interesting. I got bored with repetitive shots. The plot and story line seemed too week and the meetings of the two main characters by "coincidence" a bit silly.
I liked that was no nudity in all the 24 episodes. Also too many things that were irrelevant filled the episodes - lacking substance. Probably the whole 24 episodes should have been concentrated into 10 good episodes.
It was funny and irritating in the same time how the "true westerners", the caucasians in the movie that were supposed to be born and raised in the USA, were speaking English with such a terrible accent. Those "real americans" had in reality English as a second language.
Katla (2021)
This series will leave you disappointed
I do not recommend watching this series. In the beginning, the first 2-3 episodes are interesting but the rest of them are not that great.
It is like they adjusted the script to make room for the second season instead of finishing this series and make it great instead.
Move to Heaven (2021)
I recommend watching this series
Acting, script, movie pace is great. You will not be bored. Characters are smart and interesting and on the sidelines they touch deep emotional situations that are revealed along the main story.
Nice humor too.
His Dark Materials (2019)
Very disappointing- especially the ending. Don't waste your time.
I started watching a new series "Shadow Bone" - reluctantly, thinking "I hope is not as bad as His Dark Materials". Then I thought to write a review - it was a waste of time to watch His Dark Materials, hoping that it would get better but no, it didn't get better.
Consider the long term effects. For sure there are better things to do than watching this nonsense with daemons that are more of a weakness to the humans then a real help.
The Garden of Evening Mists (2019)
Heartfelt movie
Very subtle movie. Many things left unsaid in words but they were understood by feelings, gestures, meaningful silence and actions.
A movie about healing, about romance, about coping with the horrors of war and difficult realities.
Uso wo aisuru onna (2017)
Heartwarming and compelling movie
Story is very nice with interesting twists. Also shows the importance of having the right person in your life. Highlighted is the fact that if you get a second chance in your life- you better hang on to it and don't let it pass by.
The Father (2020)
Really Boring and a waste of time 👎
I hoped for this movie to get in different directions except the obvious one.
I thought about a conspiracy / ghost / going in circles - but not the boring nothing that was this movie until the very end.
All the good reviews are given solely because Anthony Hopkins is playing the main character in this movie. Replace him in your mind with a regular actor, not a very acclaimed movie actor and you get the boring nothing.
Pinocchio (2019)
Creepy movie
Didn't like it at all. Couldn't watch it till the end. Seemed to me and to my kids creepy somehow. The movie is also dubbed from Italian to English - didn't help the movie also.
Her (2013)
Too much of Joaquin Phoenix
During the movie I grew tired to see that actor's face - Joaquin Phoenix - over and over again. And Scarlett Johansson is just a voice -the IOS system- you don't actually get to see her.
The story is interesting, especially the way single people try new relationships, without having to invest too much in the new thing, regardless of the fact that the new relationship could be with a person or an operating system (also it can be a pet or imaginary friend - I guess the same rules are applied).
The Florida Project (2017)
Very realistic - filmed in Kissimmee, Florida
Because I've been there in my vacations, I have recognized the places. The Seven Dwarfs Lane (the street sign that appears in the movie) is right by the Sam's Club in Kissimmee. From there to Magic Kingdom it takes about 20-30 min driving time. And it is all there you will see it: the big orange shaped building, the Merlin wizard building and also the vivid colorful hotels.
Too bad some people expected some uplifting inspirational story or something with extra entertainment. This movie shows the life as it is for some people that reside in that area and it can be extended to include other places as well.
Kodachrome (2017)
I loved this movie
Actors are great; cinematography and video editing very good. The most reviews are complaining about the story: too predictable, too cliche, story being rushed and even boring. I do not agree with these opinions. I believe that there was a subtile flavor that had been missed by people too eager to place tags on everything. Ed Harris is an accomplished photographer coming to terms with the ending of his life. This movie is not so much about the reconciliation of the father-son relationship or the new relationship with two divorcees (rushed or not). I saw a movie that highlighted a very important aspect of life - getting through the coming of death, dealing with the resentments of the past that loose substance when death comes knocking, coping with life and its problems as good as you can and finding your way and your balance.
Servant (2019)
Too many inadequacies and parts left without a proper explanation
I liked the actors, acting was good, the story was promising in the beginning. In the end, it turned to be another movie where substantial gaps were left in the story - no problem we can use our imagination and fill in these missing pieces, but is this the way it should be? I, personally can make a few possible scenarios about this movie just because so much of it is just left hanging, for the viewers to simply assume. Important dialogues left unfinished, important decisions that any sane person would have done are left unmentioned and all the paranormal, the mysterious happenings are left again for the viewers to make their best assumptions.
Bottom line: if you want a movie where many things are not connecting in the story but you are satisfied with whatever is served to you, then yes, "Servant" will be the great masterpiece that you will enjoy. If you are a person that want logic, clever decisions and dialogues from the characters and more light to be casted on the supernatural, then "Servant" will disappoint.

The Stranger (2020)
I think this is a good mini-series despite the bad reviews
I don't know why others thought that the ending was bad or rushed or whatever. In my opinion actors played well and the story is good. Until the middle, after 4th episode, nobody will know what is going on. The last 4 episodes will reveal bit by bit what is happening. It is balanced, keeping you guessing and interested.
Alias Grace (2017)
A very nice mini series
The story is complex and acting is superb. The main character, Grace is very beautiful and a joy to watch. Still, the ending will not be very clear (Grace could have double personality, she could be possessed, she could have amnesia or other problems with her mind or she could be evil and devious). The movie will end and we will still not have a categorical answer. Regardless, I enjoyed this movie and I will highly recommend it.
Zhou Yu de huo che (2002)
Meaningful movie
The movie stays with you through the years. I saw the movie more than a decade ago and I still remember it. It seems slow-paced especially for young people, but it has lessons about life and relationships. The symbol of the lake used in this movie is very powerful (beautiful natural lake versus artificial lake). Love relationships could be exactly like the lake example.
Lykke-Per (2018)
Beautiful movie
The story is written based on a novel from a Nobel Prize-winning author. Marvelous work, based partially on his own personal life. In this story, important aspects of life are intertwined: the impact of religion, the differences between social class, rich people and poor people, ambition to achieve a better social position, talent and innovation, old people mentality, guilt, remorse, self-doubt, pride and ambition and... let's not forget about Love.
Highly recommended.
Delirium (2018)
For the ones that don't know if was real or imagined- read Wikipedia's plot
I watched the beginning and the end of the movie.
When I wanted to fill in the missing parts - I read these reviews and there was a lot of controversy.
I went on Wikipedia to clarify what was happening exactly in this movie.
Outlander (2014)
Seasons 1&2 ok; season 3 meh; seasons 4&5 👎
If they would have stopped after season 3 it would have been better. But they continued, and season 4&5 are like soap opera. The core of the motivation/idea is flawed for season 4 and also for season 5. I stopped watching this series in the middle of season 5.
Yi ge dou bu neng shao (1999)
Rural life/urban life in 1999 China
This movie is a documentary in a way, but also has touching stories regarding main characters. The depth of the feelings is very significantly shown in this movie.
What I noticed at the end of the movie is the fact that the main characters in this movie have the same name and occupations as they have in real life. The girl, the boy, the teacher Gao, they all have the exact names in real life. The restaurant owner is the real owner in real life. The train station announcer has the same job in real life.
Intrigued by this I double checked with Wikipedia and yes, the director used non-professional actors who play characters with the same names and occupations as the actors have in real life, blurring the boundaries between drama and reality.
