Searching for Soul Food (2023)
Smart and delicious
The show is so well written and the host is smart, direct and curious. I was entertained while learning amazing things about the world.
The theme that soul food is survival food has such truth and gives the show the entire world to explore.
Having a host of color brings a different perspective in speaking with chefs from other parts of the world and the U. S. When the show is in Appalachia they intentionally seek out Black Appalachians who might have remained hidden otherwise.
I love the way the show highlights diversity in food, like the different parts of the world that contributed to Neopolitan pizza.
More please.
Women Talking (2022)
What a brilliant way to have the conversation we have been having for centuries
This is a beautifully written masterfully directed and exquisitely performed masterpiece. The way you are left imagining what act has finally driven these women to this conversation leaves you tallying up all the ways men have disappointed and damaged women and women's complicity in raising boys who become these men. An amazing cinematic experience.
The fact that it isn't an easy answer is what makes this so satisfying.
The opportunity to see actors with extraordinary talent bite in to something you know they really believe in takes the film to another level. So excited to see Sarah Polley get the recognition she deserves at the Oscars was thrilling. And that was before I saw the film.
He's All That (2021)
Funny well written comedy
Really do not understand the rating. This was a very sweet story with funny well written dialogue and appealing characters.
Sexify (2021)
Hits modern sexuality on all fronts.
What a carefully crafted series with sharply draw characters that allow you to explore the spectrum of female sexuality and the culture that creates it through three women and their families. This Polish series brought to the world through Neflix dubbing and subtitles brings this wickedly funny series to new audiences. I will watch it at least twice.
