Dudeee what if they didn't call him chicken...

Warning: Spoilers
Thank you Rebel Without A Cause, I finally understand that "James Dean daydream look in your eye." He has become so mythical because of his charm and tragic ending. Receiving two Oscar nominations at the age of 24 years old, AFTER his death is beyond insane. Dean is the definition of cool, he's a great drunk, and he rocks the hell out of that red jacket.

Natalie Wood and Sal Mineo are both fun and psychotic as they each received nominations as supporting actors. I enjoy this Wood performance much more than The Searchers. While it's odd how remarkably okay she is after her boyfriend dies and then says "I love you" to someone else, she is incredibly cute and has great chemistry with Dean. Maybe she's a little messed up from her dad continuously calling her glamorpuss lol.

The cool factor of this film really saves the story. The dialogue and plot are actually insane when looked at closely but each new set piece combined with the actors' charm brings an awesome adventure. The cars and fashion are so much fun. The police station opener is a great way to introduce the struggles of our main characters. The high school stuff is super cheesy but the production design makes up for it. I could hang out in and around the Griffith Observatory all day. The 'chicken run' sequence is exciting. I love when the three are in the mansion acting like they are proposed buyers. The planetarium ending is a gut punch but exactly what the film needs.

RIP James Dean, you are forever an icon.

The Audition (III) (2015)

What a trio

Besides this insanely overpriced short film, this year's Killers of the Flower Moon will be the first pairing of Scorsese, DiCaprio, and De Niro and I could not be more excited.

I am amazed that they managed to spend $70 million on 16 minute short. Each actor was paid $13 million for less than two days of work. Bonkers. Scorsese still fits in some of his classic camera movements but there is some awkward CGI. I enjoy DiCaprio and De Niro making fun of themselves, it's crazy that they had never worked together before. Excluding The Audition, Scorsese will have collaborated with DiCaprio 6 times and De Niro 10 times by the end of this year which is just absurd. Best part of the short is the inclusion of the iconic inside joke of Brad Pitt always eating in his scenes.

City of God (2002)

Fantastic style in such a heart-breaking story

The film-making technique is incredible in every regard. Fernando Meirelles combines unique camera movements, authentic production design, real performances, an energizing soundtrack, and absolutely top tier editing for this beautiful movie. It feels like Scarface mixed with Once Upon a Time in America. After being nominated for four Oscars, not winning any is a crime.

Alexandre Rodrigues is very convincing as Buscapé. His sincerity is a good foil for the larger than life personality of Phellipe Haagensen and extreme psychosis of Leandro Firmino.

The kids are the real gut punch of this story. The motel robbery means so much more once the reveal is made. The scene with the 'runts' is one of the darkest moments I have ever witnessed. Still in shock. I love the way the story of the apartment is told. The strobe light party is also interesting. All of the combat is intense. The ending is very powerful... 'based on a true story' always hits harder when you didn't know it was coming.
