American Manhunt: The Boston Marathon Bombing (2023)
Informative but extremely theatrical
The series was very informative, I liked the deep dive into the perpatrators and how the attack was effecting the city of boston after the fact. But I will say the dramatic music is 10x louder then the voices of the people speaking on their experiences. Also the dramatic reenactments and random shots of actors with no face was definitely sensationalizing the whole thing and I really didn't care for it. I think where it made up for it was with information and including people who worked directly on the case. As well as friends and family of those who passed away during the bombing and even a friend of one of the bombers. Overall a good documentary but just be prepared for music overshadowing the voices of people talking and random unnecessary dramatic reenactments. Kind of reminds me of a better quality Investigation Discovery documentary.
Inside the World's Toughest Prisons (2016)
raphael rowe
This show gives a very valid & realistic look at how people live throughout the world after having committed crimes & what other countries prison insitutions are like. As well as, insight into what got them there & i think it's huge that they got someone who's been to prison & understands what it is like to host. Raphael Rowe does an amazing job at connecting as best he can, with prisoners/ inmates of all origins, capturing their conditions & earning their respect & trust. In order to get the full picture of their lives, in their current conditions. I respect his courage to revisit his trauma, by continually putting himself in harms way. All of it to capture people's forgotten suffering within prisons all over the world. I think Raphael's first hand experience adds to the authenticity of the prisoners sharing their stories & gives more context to the circumstances, as he know's exactly which questions to ask.
