The Woman in the Window (2021)
LAUGHABLE
I've never laughed so much in any movie. The third act is laughably contrived and outlandish but somehow entertaining. Those who want a good laugh should watch this movie. I'm serious, I haven't laughed so much even in comedies!!
Druk (2020)
MIDLIFE CRISIS + ALCOHOL = ANOTHER ROUND!
A poignant analysis of the intersection of friendship, loneliness, midlife crisis and how alcohol and intoxication fits in this bizarre equation. Wickedly funny, acerbic and dark, Another Round is one of the best movies of the 2020. Mads Mikkelsen is fantabulous! Go watch!
The Crown: War (2020)
Very good!
Gillian Anderson's Thatcher might seem quite odd, slow and old in the beginning but the performance grows on you and in the end you she leaves you with a flabbergasting depth of emotion, offering a deeply humane portrayal of a really divisive character. Her moments with the Queen throughout the season were exquisite and written with wit, humor and authenticity that it makes you marvel at the writers. But kudos to Olivia Colman and Gillian Anderson too!
I have to point out the breath-taking cinematography, production values, score and costumes. A treat that you can literally devour. So finely and meticulously crafted with attention to great detail.
But....
This season, though very watchable and exceptional, is bogged down by the inconsistency in the writing of Diana and Charles's relationship. I do think the writers had a very difficult job and did their best to weave an intricate relationship but something was very off and soap-opera style histrionics couldn't save it either. Emma Corrin is absolutely astonishing as Diana, scintillating and regal, but weird in some scenes especially the engagement scene. Josh' O Connor wowed me in the finale. But again, the writing makes Charles seem so selfish and vain that it was quite jarring.
So, overall it is undoubtedly worth a watch but do keep in mind that its not a documentary to take everything at its face value!
The Americans: Jennings, Elizabeth (2018)
Elizabeth Jennings! A character for the ages
"Jennings, Elizabeth" ranks as one of the greatest episodic deconstructions of a character 'Elizabeth Jennings' by using astonishingly succinct flashbacks that beautifully renders the core of the character. When we see a flashback into an incident that Elizabeth encounters while in training and how she deals with it, we immediately realize her 'black or white' way of seeing the world. The final arc is when we see a juxtaposition between who Elizabeth was and who she has become thirty years fast forward. This is a woman who has literally sold her soul and identity for a "greater purpose". But its heartbreaking when she understands that this "greater purpose" is not helping anyone other than the dictators at Kremlin. And finally, when it's a done deal that the Jennings' have to escape to Russia, in a snap Elizabeth Jennings is gone! So is her American life! That's the longevity of a soul-crushing faux identity.
Breaking Bad: Crawl Space (2011)
Gobsmackingly fantastic!!
The ending of this episode tops anything I have ever seen on t.v. It sent shivers down my spine. It is cathartic experience and tension- inducing and trust me Breaking Bad is at its topmost superiority in this ending. This episode is really under-rated when it comes to the lists of the "Best" episodes of Breaking Bad. I personally watched Breaking Bad primarily for watching "Ozymandias". But I have to say, after watching the entire series there is no moment better than the one in the crwal space. BRYAN CRANSTON!!!! "Fantabulous" is the word to describe his supreme acting skills. Even Anna Gunn does a greattt job of conveying the perfect emotions. A must watch!!!!
