Criticism sandwich
1 August 2022
The idea of this movie was somewhat fresh and I was pretty optimistic going into the movie.

What makes this movie bad is how these characters were written. It's like they had a checklist for cliché characters: pothead, social media influencer, tough guy, nerd, and final girl. And it was written in such a way that these characters could not deviate away from their given trait. This ruined any depth or character development that this movie could have had.

I did enjoy the setting for this movie a lot. It was used really well with the plot of the movie. You also don't see too many horror movies in a setting where there is tons of open space.

Towards the end of the movie you can tell that they were grasping at straws to make it make sense. Just to throw a very bad twist ending in to kill the plot. It's a bad movie, and not the good bad kind. It's a bad, bad movie.

Just not good
9 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I wish I could tell you that this was a good movie. I really do, but it is not. This movie has two major problems:

1. The acting is horrible. Mark Wahlberg and Zooey Deschanel had to play characters that they're not typically cast for, and it shows their lack or range. None of the acting felt natural and their chemistry was non existent.

2. The plot didn't make sense. There's a supposed chemical reaction given off by the plants that makes people suicidal. This isn't a terrible concept; however, when people are infected, they kill themselves one by one? It also only impacts small towns, but it's most potent within large groups of people. That's a contradiction within itself. It's not a bad idea but terrible execution.

The trailer of this movie with the people walking off the building to their death had me so excited to see this movie. I just wish it would have lived up to the hype.

Exactly what you think, but different
7 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
John (male abductor) manipulates Evelyn (female abductor) constantly throughout this movie. He overacts to small things and blows up, only to apologize moments later. He also gaslights her after she pretty much catches him trying to rape Vicki while she was away. He shows all the signs of an abuser.

This translates into Vicki's life as well. The manipulation on to her is a lot more subtle which ties the movie together in a really nice way. Before she was abducted she was upset that her mom divorced her dad. When she does get abducted though, there is a scene where the dad tries to get back with Vicki's mom. She denies him and he says, "I can see why Vicki hates it here" then the mother cries. It's obvious that Vickis dad is also very manipulative. From that scene alone, you can tell that Vicki's dad made her mom out to be the bad guy, and that's why Vicki blames her for the divorce.

It is shown throughout the movie that Evelyn is also a mother. She can not see her kids and you can tell that Evelyn becomes a constant reminder that she is a poor mother. This little detail is important because it makes the ending a little bit more believable. Towards the end Evelyn says "your mom's probably not even looking for you" to Vicki. A little later in the movie you are able to hear Vicki's mom yelling throughout the neighborhood searching for her. Which I believe played a very significant role in Evelyn ultimately killing John and letting Vicki leave.

It really nails how abusive relationships can impact a person, and how even small acts can be used to manipulate someone.

I think it's worth the watch. (Sorry for the long post)

Bad bad bad
8 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
There is not one redeeming quality about this movie. The only thing that I will give credit to, for this movie, is that I did not expect Mandy to be in on the killing. Other than that, it was BAD.

The story had no substance, there was really no point to why any of this happened. None of the characters had meaningful connections or chemistry. The only established background was that Mandy's parents died, and it was brung up several times even though it served no purpose to the story. There is no point of explaining the movie because it can all be summed up as everyone died.

It honestly, could have been redeemed if they would have at least showed the aftermath of what happened. No, just cuts to one of the previous scenes towards the beginning of the movie. It is just such a lazy job and mediocre slasher.

Hard to watch
7 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I want to start off by saying that I enjoyed the first Sleepaway Camp movie. It wasn't the greatest but the twist at the end of the first movie made it worth the watch. This movie however, did not have one redeeming quality: acting was bad, low budget special effects, and an overall bad story.

To start it's six years later and Angela escaped the mental hospital (no explanation on how), and magically became a camp counselor. She has an Uncle that would have had to known she was a serial killer, that let her work at the new camp. And to make a long story short, she kills everyone at the camp. The only reference to the first movie is the other camp counselors telling the story of Angela killing people at the previous camp.

This honestly could have been a stand alone film based on how little of the first movie is referenced. She seemingly looks more like a woman even though she is biologically a man. She claims to send all of the camp counselors home after she kills them, and the Uncle (who runs the camp) doesn't follow up at all. This movie is just filled with so many plot holes that it's hard to even enjoy. Not worth the watch.

Loved this movie
5 September 2021
Everything about this movie works. This is all opinionated of course but this movie does so well with everything. Cinematography is amazing, everything ties together well in the plot, the acting is solid. I feel like everyone has a role in this movie that impacts another character. Even things like soundtrack and the setting fit in so well with the different moods of each scene. I'm sure that not everyone will see this movie in the same light that I do, but it is very worth the watch. I hope you enjoy this movie as much as I have.

Pretty decent
5 September 2021
I watched this movie without any expectations, as these kinds of movies are hit or miss. And this movie was both, I think?

It really hits in a lot of ways: takes a somewhat cliché horror trope and puts and interesting spin on it, has pretty good chemistry between the two main protagonists, and makes it hard to tell how the movie will end

It also has some misses: the story goes against previous important points throughout the movie, terrible CGI, inconsistencies with how the cursed meme works, and never showed anyone actually get killed

It is a good movie if you just want to kick it with friends and chill, but it is not the movie for someone looking to be scared. I, overall, enjoyed this movie. The acting was decent and it made me laugh, just lacked the context to tie the story together.

Not a very good movie
21 March 2021
I would like to start by saying the only reason this movie made it to 3 stars, is solely because it has Jessica Barden. I actually enjoyed the acting and setting in this movie, everything else pretty much missed the mark. I want to say the directing in this movie wasn't good. It seemed fairly predictable and not very suspenseful. I feel like I already knew what was going to happen before it happened. The story had potential but lacked so much detail that it was hard to understand why things were happening. I think it is worth the watch, but only if it's out of boredom, not to entertain.

How does this average 5 stars?!
20 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
It's baffling how this movie rated anything above 3 stars. I do respect the opinions of others, but this movie was terrible imo. I'm going to try to keep the spoilers to a minimum; although you can probably guess how the movie will turn out less than 10 minutes in.

So the first thing to tackle is how sketchy the hospital is that they were taken to. No cars in the lot, barely any other patients, and about 4 people running AN ENTIRE HOSPITAL. Not only that, the hospital just screams deserted. There were hardly any lights working, it looked trashed (similar to post apocalyptic movie hospitals, but not as extreme) and the elevator barely worked.

The second thing is the plot of the movie was idiotic to say the least. A doctor uses patients to keep his ailing wife alive. It's not a bad idea to spin a movie around. However nothing in this movie seems to make sense. The only details that you are given in the movie is pretty much useless. For example: the lead actress tells the doctor that she went to medical school, but dropped out. The doctor tells her she should go back to medical school like 4 times throughout the movie. You would think that it would be important later. But no, she doesn't save anyone with her limited medical knowledge, she doesn't become the new evil doctor, it literally made no impact on the movie. There are hardly any details given in the movie, other than the doctor is willing to kill people to save his wife.

I gave 3 stars instead of 1 because there were two pretty good scenes in the movie. One when Jude sacrificed himself to help Emily, and the other with Emily and Bobby before she "pulled the plug". Other than that this movie could have been made a lot better, and the actors could have gotten a lot more screen time.

Didn't make much sense
28 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Quick backstory: A couple, Sarah and Joseph, go on a trip with their friends Estelle and Victor (also a couple). It's obvious both couples are going through a rough patch. Then a stranger knocks on the door and things turn bad when they try to get her to leave and she dies. Although it was an accident, everyone becomes cautious of Victor because he tussled with the woman causing her death. He senses this and tries to distance himself away from everyone, soon dying from a stab wound inflicted by Estelle (on accident). Two police officers came and question Sarah, Joseph, and Estelle. One police officer is then killed by robbers, and the other appears to be working with said robbers. Joseph is stabbed and Estelle is killed. The robbers are looking for a photo of themselves and the police officer committing a crime. Sarah tells them she can take them to the photo, and eventually kills the police officer and a robber. As she is leaving the last robber jumps out and is about to kill her when Joseph shoots him. Then Joseph died.

What did not make sense: Sarah and Joseph were expecting a baby, but VERY little detail was given on how the baby was lost. It was clear that it had put a strain on their relationship. Then, it is revealed that Joseph and Estelle had an affair, which serves no purpose to the movie at all. The officer is also partnering with robbers to get a photo that somehow caught them up close and personal committing a crime. Honestly even Fairuza Balk couldn't save this movie, her role is that of the stranger who need to make a call. The acting also was not very good, but it wasn't terribly bad. People will want to give this movie a terrible score, but it could have been a lot worse.

Had potential
23 April 2020
I will not spoil this because it honestly isn't worth it. I usually write reviews on movies that I believe are either really good or really bad. This was the latter. This movie was pretty solid from the beginning with decent acting; however, midway through the movie it became a train wreck. It leads you to believe one thing is going to happen, but it completely switches up. I know you're thinking that "that's a plot twist", which it is, but it added nothing to the story. The movie is filled with a ton of flashbacks that serve purpose to the movie, but are unexploited to the point where they were only useful for the next five minutes of the movie. I had to actually change my star count after writing this review because just trying to find something good to say about this movie is hard. Still worth it to give a watch because everyone has a difference in opinion and my opinion means very little.

I have watched this movie at least 5 times
20 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I have to say I am extremely biased and love all of the Rob Zombie movies (even the Halloween remake). A lot of things are to be considered when looking into this movie. The cast is EVERYTHING. In my personal opinion the atmosphere created by this cast is not one that just any actor/actress could create. Sid Haig did a great job of setting the tone of the movie early with the ride of death. Sheri Moon Zombie, Bill Moseley, and Karen Black take over for the duration of the movie terrorizing the couples. This is not a cut and dry slasher film, it gives personality to the killers. Rob Zombie also does an AMAZING job with the track list for this movie. Sorry that my review is all over the place, but there are so many great things about this movie. The best part about this movie is the ending because there is no happy ending, everyone dies. Which might sound a bit cynical, but it makes the movie that much more complete while setting up the sequel 'The Devils Rejects'.

Very unique
2 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This is a twist on the average zombie movie because the people AREN'T zombies. This is a sickness and the people infected are still intact with who they are, but they're "crazy". The best part for in my opinion is the setting. In any regular zombie movie you see large scale outbreaks and pretty much an apocalypse. This movie; however, is in a small town where everyone knows each other. You get a lot more emotion in this movie because of that very reason adding to the realism. The last thing is how it spread to and through the town. A plane crashed meant as a nuclear weapon in another city, but somehow crashed into the lake. This is how it all started, and while this isn't the most realistic thing ever, it is certainly one that is plausible.

Overall, I enjoyed this movie. It is more of a thriller than horror, but a great film none the less. And as always, sorry for the bad grammar.

After watching and reviewing comments on Salò, I give it 1 star
26 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This movie goes back and forth with star rating, generally 1 or 10. There are those who would argue that this movie does nothing other than create shock value. Then there are those who argue that this is a masterpiece.

I agree with the first POV. I firmly believe that this movie was not created with deeper meaning other than to provoke uneasiness. I have recently been watching banned movies: 'Cannibal Holocaust', 'A Serbian Film', and most recently 'Salò'. These movies, all alike, have scenes displaying rape, murder, and torture. While I do believe a movie can be sickening and still contain a message like 'Cannibal Holocaust'. Movies like 'Salò' and 'A Serbian Film' exist purely to earn a reputation for most repugnant visuals. In my very honest opinion, 'Salò' is a very boring piece with mediocre acting.

I believe some people, not including myself, enjoyed this movie despite the unsettling scenes. Those people will say that this is a work of art, and try to create a deeper meaning to justify their enjoyment of the film. This is nothing more than speculation from me. A film does not have to show how sick and cruel humans are to other humans. We do a pretty good job of that in real life.

Sorry for the bad grammar. -Los

I made an account just to review this movie
24 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was a solid 10 until you realize the animals were really killed. That being said, the message is what gives this movie a high rating for me. It shows that sympathy and empathy can be misguided without proper context.

Your are shown a video of the documenting group leaving for the Amazon or "Green Inferno". This is a group of three men and one woman, who seem to be pretty decent people. A professor sets out with two other people to retrieve the lost film. On the exploration, the professor finds the skulls and leftover possessions of the documenting group. At this point you are most likely sad to see that everyone in the group is dead.

Fast forward to where the professor is actually viewing the footage of documenting group. You will see that same group terrorizing, killing, and raping members of the tribe they set out to document. After some time they are a captured and met with the same fate that they inflicted on the tribe. And it is at that point that you realize that you should not feel sympathy or empathy for that crew.

I like that it is sort of a backwards tale. It used foreshadowing to keep you in the dark until the very end of the movie. The whole thing worked well for me, except the animals dying.
