Entrevías (2021)
It could be worse, but it isn't.
The plot has merits but it deserved much better script writing and directing. Acting was generally good with the exception of Amanda, the police inspector, and (horror) Nelson and Irene. But how can anybody ruin a generally acceptable plot with such bad scriptwriting and directing? The story makes irrational twists and turns, defies rationality and continually circles back to the original issue. The analogy of this series to Clint Eastwood's "Grand Torino" made by other critics is a stretch. I could watch Grand Torino over again an enjoy it, while one more episode of "Entrevias" would make me puke. ¡Qué mierda!
Jack Ryan (2018)
Such trite!
This series does a disservice to Clacy's novels and the excellent movies they engendered. The plot is trite, the script was written by amateurs and the result is laughable. From the start, one is presented with situations that defy logic. Why would a Russian scientist asylum seeker, already in the hands of the CIA, be taken to Greece to put in the hands of who knows what group? Who in the world can believe that the president of the Czech Republic would join in with CIA operatives in a mission in Russia? And on and on.
Clancy must have received big bucks to allow this comedy to use his characters.
Leona (2018)
Riveting topic
Excellent treatment of a very interesting subject, with no distracting sun-plots. Continuity was not up to par. Acting was excellent very much in tune with the characters. While realistic, ending is somewhat disappointing.
Promising Young Woman (2020)
Formidable novel plot
The plot is so novel it is hard, if not impossible, to anticipate events. Carrie Mulligan is fantastic. Both movie and her are Oscar material.
Moartea domnului Lazarescu (2005)
Informative film: never go to Romania
The film is well made, hence my rating. But what a disgusting story! As bad a medical care as we see here, it reminded me of similar treatment my father received in three Miami, FL hospitals prior to his death.
Carmel: ¿Quién mató a María Marta? (2020)
Interesting, and well done
First of all, if you are not a Spanish speaker, you'll not begin to appreciate it. And if you haven't lived in cultures like Argentina's, you'll never understand the undercurrents at play. From a documentary standpoint I think it's excellent. Using the real characters narrating and re-enacting real situations was very well done. The "plot", well that is something else. It's a real life story with no happy ending, as a matter of fact, no ending at all.
