The Hottie & the Nottie (2008)
Extra point only for Christine Lakin
I could only stand about 10 minutes of this abomination and that only so I could see Christine Lakin on screen. Now I have to scrub my memory of this film so that I can enjoy seeing her again.
I really didn't expect the movie to be any good. After all, they chose Paris Hilton to star in it and an "actress" with less talent than she has would be very hard to find. I really don't see how she is considered a beauty when there are so many talented women out there who are far better looking and sexier (not necessarily a matter of looks).
The premise actually isn't that bad; however, I'm not sure whether the putridity here is a result of a poorly implemented script, poor directing, or idiotic casting. It's probably a combination of the three.
The Ron White Show (2005)
Great comedian, but material loses something when sanitized for network TV
I really enjoy Ron White's work (and the rest of the Blue Collar crew's), but this toned-down effort demonstrates that Ron's work is the least suited to network television. By the time the "bleepers" got done with the two short cartoon segments in this pilot, I had a ringing in my ears ("Naked Eating Cheetos" and "The Sunglass Hut"), but it was good to finally see Sluggo :) The Dr. Phil segment (with Dave Atell) was a little puerile, but not every "bit" is going to resonate with the audience. The "Best Man" bit was probably the closest thing to a "real" Ron White routine that didn't get bleeped. Of course, his classic "They Call Me Tater Salad" routine could probably also escape evisceration. Let's just hope that he does a lot more cable and live shows, leaving the prudes on network TV to their own devices.
