I'm glad that I stayed until the end
20 April 2023
This movie started off pretty slow. And some of the acting appears more amateur than professional. And some parts are so cheesy that the writer should have been fired. I was seriously thinking of giving up on it - but I'm really glad that I didn't.

It got better, little by little. Until eventually by the end it was a pretty decent movie. (Hence my 8 out of 10 rating.) The acting improved sufficiently as the movie progressed. But most pleasing of all was the storyline. It started off disjointed but the ending was really good in bringing everything together.

This movie won't win an Oscar but it's worth watching, in my opinion.

Just a soap opera
15 February 2023
At first I enjoyed this series. But it has since descended into being a pathetic soap opera instead of bring a drama of some worth.

Some of the characters are likeable, but the plot believability has nose dived into fantasy- and not the good kind of fantasy. Now the characters are behaving in an unrealistic manner.

It is disappointing. With the range of fairly capable actors it has, one might have thought that the series would be worth watching. But no. The writers have made this series overly dramatic (rather than be a drama of reasonable standard) and with unrealistic plots.

I definitely do not recommend that you spend your valuable time watching this.

Medical inaccuracy
20 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
OK, I'm not medically qualified in anything, just an ordinary person.

And I'm not expecting perfection at all. But. But. But.

I was shocked by the medical ignorance about the correct treatment of his ex's diabetes.

OK, so (spoiler alert) Sophie collapses and Martin diagnoses that it's to do with her status as a Type 1 diabetic. He then administers glucogen- ie something which raises (note: raises) a person's blood sugar levels. And later asks for something with sugar on it, eg a fruit juice. Which also raises blood sugar level. However!

At no stage did he test her blood sugar levels to check whether they were currently too low - or too high!

And when conscious she said that she hadn't been taking her insulin as often as she should. - Thus it was likely that her blood sugar levels were currently too high - and raising them more would have -killed her(!!) not helped her to recover.

Good- but whose brother is he?
22 August 2022
Good movie. Realistic and lots of interesting details.

But one thing confused me. The guy and his son who moved in with Sharon and Doug. - Whose brother is he? If he's Sharon's brother, then .... more details needed. And if he's Doug's brother then Ruby isn't Ned's grandma.

My friend and I argued over this for awhile.

Some good bits
3 April 2022
Some good bits but overall, the series won't be a favourite of mine.

The acting is good. But my main complaint is that the plot is untidy, especially the last episode.

Enjoyed it a lot... but...

Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoyed this series .... right until the last bit of the last episode.

If I hadn't seen the ending I would have said this: great acting, and lots of funny moments. Kudos to the writer/s. But I have seen the end...

25 May 2021
Started a bit slow, but I am glad the I persevered. It was well worth watching.

If you like period pieces, this movie is for you.

If you like action, then this movie is also for you.

Whatever you like. This movie is good. Just watch it. Lol.

No! No! No!

This is soooo wrong on so many levels. What a disaster. The "real" Elizabeth wouldn't have done what she's done this season.

I won't be watching any more.

Not so enjoyable to watch at the moment
16 April 2021
I used to love-love-love this series and eagerly wait for the next episode. But now it's not so much fun because it looks like characters are heading towards making bad decisions..... I want them to be happy not miserable!! Now, instead of enjoying the show I'm worrying.

Becoming a soap opera
14 April 2021
I enjoy detective TV but this is intead becoming like a soap opera, in that there are several storylines going on in the one episode and none of them are properly finished or explained. They're all progressed just a little per episode. - A trick to make sure that the producers have an audience for the next episode, perhaps?? A good story has a beginning - and an end/conclusion.

Doesn't feel right
11 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
So many things were only briefly touched on and not given enough time, eg Faith basically told Carter to leave. And Clara made a disaster of Mollies hair- but neither moment had a logical conclusion But worst was the date between Elizabeth and Lucas. It just doesnt feel right. Nathan is a better man. She should be a able to see that.

Disappointed - again
27 April 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I saw my first episode a couple of months ago. I loved it ... until the last ten minutes. The end was plain disappointing. You were left with a strange feeling of hopelessness, rather than anything being (properly) ended.

Then last night we happened to come across another episode as we were flicking channels, looking for something to watch. It looked promising, I thought. (I had forgotten about my previous experience with this series.) It was going so well. The acting was great. The plot was beautifully crafted, I thought. I would have given it a 9 out of 10 - but for the ending. (Here's the spoiler, sorry.) One of the main characters died. I can understand that happening in a series when it is the last episode of the season & the producers need to write out a character who'll be unavailable for the next season - but that wasn't the case in this episode. It was more as if, the viewers *have to* be given something miserable and pointless - yet again.

I don't know who the writer is, but I can only guess that when he/she went to film-writing school, the class on How to Write a Good Ending was at 8 am or similar - that is, far too early, so this writer slept in and missed that class every time.

It has great acting & a good beginning and middle - but that cannot make up for miserable endings which leave a nasty taste in one's mouth.

I give it only 2 out of 10.

A pleasant time
5 February 2010
OK, so it's not some great wonder-movie which will get a zillion Oscars - but hey, it was a pleasant movie to watch.

I liked that it was gentle and friendly, and suitable to enjoy with my 10 year old son. There are so many movies today where I feel like that I've spent some time with very rough individuals with low standards - and I should look for a better class of friend. So it was a great relief to simply have an enjoyable afternoon

I loved the warmth & down-to-earth-ness of the locals, and the city slickers seemed to appreciate that too.

Not the most amazing movie of the decade - but a very pleasant way to spend an afternoon.
