The Ice Road (2021)
Is Liam in debt? Please send donations rather than supporting this crap
Seriously bad in almost every way. I'm not sure if there was a script or if they just had a bunch of locations and some trucks and improvised (badly). Save yourself, don't bother watching this - evil corp covering up bad stuff is outed by heroic trucker BS.
Debris (2021)
Fraught and Overwraught
Original ideas ruined by the overwraught script. After trying to deal with the emotional sludge thrown on the actors, I quickly found myself rolling my eyes and fast forwarding through the really terrible dialogue... and then eventually giving up.
Angela Black (2021)
I gave up caring about both characters early on
As much as I wanted to have sympathy for the main character I just could not get past her stupidity. I struggled on to episode 2, but when she said she was staying rather than walking away with nothing (err hello, heard of matrimonial property and or alimony?) Only to then conside4 murder...sorry, I'm out.
Well off, seemingly literate and well connected socially she is not, as the synopsis would have you think 'trapped' in this toxic relationship, she chooses. Then there's the eyer olling 'tension' as she creeps about the house at the most ridiculous times to catch her husband out, or make a pathetic attemot at leaving...spare me.
Angela may not be able to make good decisions, dont be like Angela. Dont invite this nonsense into your home.
From Darkness (2015)
I kept waiting for it to get better
There was every opportunity for this to be another ripping British detective drama. It had moments when you are fooled into thinking the script will get back on track, and then ....wtf is this nonsense...
I managed to limp along to the end and regret it.
Its not even that the writer was piling cliches into the script, there were some good twists and plenty of opportunity for original storylines. But the idea that anyone would let the main character anywhere near a police investigation is laughable. There's the stereotypical flawed character, and then there's ridiculous... and we go well beyond ridiculous here.
The Gloaming (2020)
Supernatural bs added to cover for lazy writing
Starts out intriguing and there is plenty of scope for this to be a cracking thriller of the scandi noir type, but instead they rely on stereotypes for the main characters, lots of ridiculous dark room/flashlight scenes and some half baked supernatural bs thrown in.
Apparently Tasmanian houses do not have a single lightbulb above 8w, the police have never seen a light switch before and even during the csi scenes Tasmanian cops are not sufficiently resourced to have portable lighting kits. Snd of course there are unnecessary car chases and other plot lines that are all rather yawn inducing\eye rolling.
The lead character is such a stereotype (the mysterious, pained past, the old car and clothing that Mark's her out as a 'maverick', the secret grudge, the divided family, blah blah) that it is barely believable she has a job. I started siding with the separated husband...
It's watchable but I found it gets painful and predictable toward the middle.
