The Blackout (1997)
One of my favourite movies ever - a critically despised gem
I've seen this movie many times and I always enjoy watching it. Abel Ferrara is one of my favourite directors because he's not afraid to turn the volume up full blast and go all the way with the material. The Blackout is a completely crazy movie jammed pack full of drinking, drugging, sex and violence all set in Miami. It stars Matthew Modine who is rather good and Dennis Hopper gives the movie its X factor. How Abel Ferrara managed to get beatrice dalle and claudia schiffer in this i don't know. I get why it was shown at Cannes because I think the French would enjoy this one due to its shock value and raw explicit content. Definitely check this one out. Nobody would have the guts to make this now - same as Bad Lieutenant (Werner Herzog did but he turned it into a comedy) - no Director goes as far as Ferrara did in the 90s.
A Haunting in Venice (2023)
What a snoozefest
I don't understand how they make such a boring movie with such brilliant actors and such a high budget.
Kenneth needs to give up this Poirot project because it's getting worse each time he tries to do it. He's the worst Poirot by a long way.
It's like a TV movie, if it hadn't been shot well and on high budget sets this movie wouldn't even be something they would show in the middle of the day on free Tv.
One long snoozefest from beginning to end, the music is like something AI made, none of the characters are believable and the DoP was obsessed with wide angle lenses during the entire shoot apparently. Very strange.
Can't stand any more of these ones from Kenneth.
Killers of the Flower Moon (2023)
Bloated, emotionally dead, edited like a student film, one of the worst movies of the year!
This has got to be one of the worst movies of the year!
I don't get everybody calling it a masterpiece! Did they see the same movie I saw!?
It's so bloated and boring it's unbelievable. It's like a first rough draft of a movie. It meanders and drifts. The scenes are utterly pointless and completely lifeless at times.
I actually started falling asleep at one point and had to go and get a coffee.
It reminds of a student film when they don't want to cut anything out. Man if this movie was cut in half and condensed there would be a much better movie to see.
What a complete disaster, I'm really disappointed as Scorsese is one of my favourite filmmakers and I get to the cinema 3-4 times a week. This one is rotten.
Babylon (2022)
How did this movie end up so boring?
Quickly became a snoozefest, oh my god it just goes on and on and on. Some 3 hour movies feel short but this one feels like it went for 10 hours and you have to force yourself to watch it Clockwork Orange style. One thing that bothered me was they kept messing up the camera focus too. Brad Pitt has his moments as well as Margot and the others hit a bright spot here and there. But the movie is more like a TV show season condensed into 3 hours. Wish I'd turned it off halfway and I'd actually have given it a much better score. I don't understand how these directors with 80 million and Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie can make a boring movie.
København findes ikke (2023)
Not much to hang your hat on
I am genuinely worried about whoever directed this movie or wrote it. I don't understand why you would want to go and make something like this. It's extremely bleak and depressing. I respect the actors a lot and sure the movie was pretty good overall. But it left me feeling very flat and it was a completely soulless experience. The main character was completely mad in my opinion, they should have been put in a lunatic asylum and throw away the key! He was a real nut job. I don't recommend going and seeing this on a date. Go and see it on a sunny day because you're going to need some sunshine after walking out of this film, it destroys your mind.
