I'm a Virgo (2023)
Quirky and original
As a big fan of shows that have supernatural elements and tell a. New story, I gave I'm a Virgo a chance. Plus I am a Virgo so I wanted to see how they built that in there. There are some sweet coming of age of a naive teenager parts that addresses friendships, relationships, and society. What turned me off were some of the "all or nothing" political views that heavily demonize the "us vs them" and serve to further the racial divide that currently exists in the US. "Capitalism is to blame for the woes of poor people"
is a gross oversimplification of a complex issue. You would think communist Russia at the time of the Cold War should be the perfect society! Hey, no capitalism so life should have been perfect for everyone, right? Hospitals in the US also don't turn people away at the ER. The series basis its plot on extremely flawed ideas which can be dangerous. That said, there are some valid points that do make you think about things. Also, if the US was not a capitalist society, we'd all be speaking German right now. Just something to think about.
One Day (2024)
Boring Garbage
The only positive thing I can say is that the episodes are short, at about 25 minutes on average for each The lead characters lack any chemistry whatsoever and are insufferable for the majority of the series. It is extremely slow moving and goes nowhere. Year after year of these 2 idiots meeting up as "friends" wears thin as a plot device. Hot, rich guy who drinks and drugs too much and the mediocre looking smart girl who can't attract any decent guys. Don't waste your time on this drivel. They also picked some of the 80s and 90s worst music to include on the soundtrack. Way better romcoms out there. Do not waste your time on this as I did. Vapid boring garbage is all I can say about this series. Netflix, please do better.
Lore (2017)
Should have stayed a podcast
Not scary at all and episodes can get campy. Most of the episodes look at historical abuses of women, whether it be forced labotomies, a husband murdering his wife thinking she's a fairy, witchcraft, etc. That, to me, is more fear inducing than the hokey "horror stories" being told here. Many of the visuals are still shots, drawings, pictures; when there is acting, it's very mediocre. I'm just on season 1 and don't think I'll be watching season 2, especially without the narration per other reviewers. Episodes also go on way too long and can be told in 30 minutes without Al the filler. Should have stayed a podcast.
Wolf (2021)
Absolute Garbage
Kicking myself for not checking the IMDb score on this one before I flushed away the almost 2 hours watching this drivel. Nothing at all redeeming about this terribly scripted, plotless, flat movie. One of the worst films I've seen in a while. The ending leaves you hanging as well. No resolution. Completely pointless. Do not waste your time. Not giving away any spoilers, but no, no one ever turns into a wolf. Just straight up mental illness peppered with medical abuse. Go watch One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest for a much better made film that has an actual plot. I will give props to the girl who whinnies just like a horse. That was pretty spot on. Lol.
God's Favorite Idiot (2022)
One of the worst things I've seen in a while...
Mild spoilers
Ugh. So much promise, but wasted away with a terrible script and jokes that go nowhere and fall flat. Bad affects that are so cringey you feel bad for the actors (ex: 4 Horsemen galloping slo-mo through a grocery store; angels weakly battling with swords as weapons ). It's just so very bad. Reminds me of a high school film student production. Plot goes absolutely no where and end leaves you hanging in the wind. I really wanted to like this as the message is sweet, but the delivery is an abomination.
Seutateueob (2020)
Strong start but jumped the shark half way through
What a mess... really great start to it with the letters and background story which eventually devolved into an over-dramatized drivel of nonsense. It's like an endlessly bad K-pop video where the characters don't grow or even tell a decent story. I liked Dal-mi in the beginning but by the middle I just wanted to punch her In the head.
The episodes are WAAAAY too long and too numerous. They should have done a better job editing out the crap and told the story better. Ex: Chul-San opening up a bottle of milk that sat on the counter and it explodes in his face and he has a total meltdown down. Serious over acting in this series. It was at this moment that I stopped watching and abandoned this absolute TRASH.
If you want to watch a good Korean series, check out Squid Game.
Messiah (2020)
FANTASTIC and Thought Provoking
A hidden gem of a series that actually makes you think and wonder "what if"... excellent acting and script writing makes Messiah an unforgettable experience. Loved it so much I watched it 3x. In today's world, we need more shows like Messiah. Highly recommend.
Cobra Kai (2018)
Triple C's: Cheesy, Corny, & Cringey
The acting is terrible (a few of the kids can act way better than the adults) and the script is pandering and full of cliches. Every character seems awful and immature and does stupid things for no real reason. It tries too hard to be serious but comes off as just corny. Every time Lawrence says QUIET! I want to cringe. Watch something else. Anything else! Season 2 in completely unwatchable. Please cancel these piece of junk.
Dispatches from Elsewhere (2020)
Interesting & Intriguing
A wonderfully scripted and well-acted original series based on concepts from the film, The Institute, but takes some very cool twists & turns. Surprisingly underrated by IMDB. Love the character stories, games, mysteries, and pure fun aspects of watching this.
The Stranger (2020)
Complete GARBAGE
Spoilers: The acting in this show is some of the worst I have ever seen. The plot is completely ridiculous and makes no sense in terms of character motivation and makes you come away thinking that all British people are selfish, lying murderers. The hairstyles, clothing, and set design fell right out of the 80s or 90s - awful! You also never really "like" any of the characters. In fact, you end up hating all of them. The worst character motivation in this show is Tripp doing what he did so he could "keep up appearances"! Ha! Laughable. His house is filled with gaudy furniture and he wears polo shirts that are 3 sizes too small with popped up collars! Please, please, please do not waste your time on this truly awful series. Netflix should be ashamed.
