Cold Brook (2018)

Enjoyable but what's the point?
14 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I watched this one rainy afternoon in between naps and doing some DIY.

It was a good filler and I asked myself why I carried on with it.

The plot is possibly good on paper but lacking in execution. The idea of a dead man wanting his land that he never claimed so he can rest is a weird one.

If you take this as a ghost story at its heart then I think you miss the colour that this film really paints with.

I think that this is much more of a story of relationships and how they can be taken for granted or misplaced, yet a good friend is hard to find and good woman even more precious. One who stands by you even in your weirdest moments.

Taken as a thought piece on mundane mediocrity being a greater blessing than we give it credit.

I did like it but I'd leave it a while before I'd think of watching it again, it's no ballad of buster Scruggs.

Keeping it going
1 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I'm 44 years old and grew up on the Rocky franchise. Every time they released a new one I went cautiously hoping to not be disappointed.

The Creed films were even more of an unknown, but they deliver.

Rocky stays true to his character and I loved bringing back Ivan and now his son.

Doesn't really make sense to me that they're living in old run down houses, given that Creed is the world champion and all the money that comes along with it.

Maybe my age talking, but the music from Bianca is terrible and really broke the spirit of the film. Maybe it catches the mood of Philly like the original did with the guys round the oil drum singing on the street.

The plot was a bit as expected, Rocky telling him not to take the fight and Creed needing to prove himself.

I would have liked it more if Rocky stood by Creed from the off and trusted his ability. Just seemed a bit like a recycling of the same old.

For a long running franchise though they keep it going well.

Not the worst

My title doesn't scream watch this, but if you do, be prepared to be unimpressed and smacked in the face by poor acting and cheesy script writing.

It's an adult equivalent of a Saturday morning kids tv show.

Enjoyable but struggling
18 April 2022
There's clearly a narrative that's being put in almost every episode, this one highlights it even more. White men bad, BLM good. Promoting an organisation that wants to dismantle the nuclear family and destroyed American cities whilst saying anyone who is on the right has to be a domestic terrorist.

Good but didn't like the adult language
6 April 2022
Unlike every other review that's on this episode, I didn't like the F words. Throwing in swear words doesn't make a show better. Yes, more likely the language they would use but it was just as intense and realistic (although my military friends may disagree) without the strong language.

I liked the fact it was decent without the strong language that others shows seem to want to use all the time now.

Where was the sitting room ever before?!!
22 February 2022
I love the show but we never saw the sitting room ever, ever before. Strange addition to get one of Adam's sentimental moments in.

Very funny and worth watching but just find the new addition odd.

I like it more now than ever

Given what we now give up for "safety", this film really hits home what true freedom really is.

Bale acts really well as although there are logic how's in this iir carries really well.

As a family film it's good, but it's just made to lead children in to the whole planet is dying narrative.

Masonic symbols on the French otters. Easy to see what this is all about if you know what's going on.

Surprised myself with eating this a 7
5 October 2021
I haven't read the book.

When the film started and Samuel L Jackson's acting came across as amateur I was t sure wether to continue.

The acting in general wasn't great but my reason for a 7 is the depth that this made me think.

Is this a narrative about the ubiquitous overtaking of mobile/cell culture and the way we rip others down through the use of social media or is it even a warning of the dangers of relatively unknown technology and the long term health aspects?

Given the realms of virtual reality and a scary move towards transhumanism that is emerging this film acted as a stark reminder of how the mass integration of mobile devices can be deadly.

To hyper theatrical. You can't have 2 big characters in the same show. It became like a pantomime.

Weak
28 August 2021
This was a weak episode and I frankly was bored for the most part of it. The idea was poorly executed and the reveal of guilt from the killer without any pretence of innocence was ridiculous. It felt like the writers wanted to explore the depths of subconscious but still try and keep the storyline of the current episode killer going. It didn't mesh well at all and was about as satisfying as aliens suddenly appearing in a film that got lost and needed an explanation.

Very disappointing episode. This season has been moderate at best so far.

A scary tele of where we're heading
4 August 2021
It's not your typical story and there is no definite ending. I think this is where the truth lies in the narrative of an ever encroaching dystopian reality. Hope is gone, there is solitude in the midst of struggle and you will conform.

Very well acted and I enjoyed the commentary on what has happened in other countries and what may lie ahead for us all.

Moby Dick (2011)
5/10
Not awful if you haven't read the book
29 September 2020
I held off watching this until I'd finished the book. As usual, the screen writers adapt to make, what they deem, as a more watchable event. The complete over working of Ahab and his interactions with Ishmael were trite. The extra sightings and presence of Moby Dick ruined the story and failed to evince the true monomaniacal mind of Ahab. For a character barely heard of in the book and the whale who isn't present until the last few pages of the book, the film ripped the story apart. Take it as a stand alone film without the book and it's not too bad.

This is an excellent film
9 August 2020
I watched this and found it hard to say i enjoyed it. It was well made and acted. The storyline was strong and the message well made. The reason I didn't enjoy it is because of the subject matter at hand. To think how many babies are killed daily is heartbreaking.

Impractically impossible to believe
14 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The concept was good. I did call the reasoning behind her capture about half way through the film. The ruining of the film was the reaction he took after the rape and the impossibility of the circumstances and his finances, I can only speculate, to achieve what he did.

Yet another lecture from Hollywood about how normal life is repressive and we should all be more "free". 👎🏻 I didn't know what it was about when I started watching it. The acting is excellent and great filming. Jus the narrative is another media propaganda event.

This film ticks all the boxes. Deep plot line, character depth, cinematography is excellent, beautifully set up. All of this done without sex scenes and bad language.

Major Crimes (2012–2018)
4/10
Woked up stories
10 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I was loving the show and the characters. The stories are well written but I'm stopping watching it due to the Rusty Beck storyline. The writer has just used the show to express his own story. Fair enough if you're writing a teen, confused sexuality show and you advertise is it as so. It's just become a gay agenda show that's as much about that as it is about a major crimes unit. I'm not interested in the private life of a minor character. It diminishes the impact of the show since he's stopped becoming a witness and is now a non contributing part of the team.

Good action but too much S.J.W stuff
4 February 2020
Each episode is a like a mini film. Great story lines on the main plots. The underpinning social justice and politically correct angles are really annoying. Guess it's their point of view and I don't have to watch it. It would be nice to watch a show that's good but not overtly political.
