Monkey Man (2024)

Watch if you don't have anything new to watch
23 April 2024
As usual, I don't know where to start. It's a decent film overall. Seems well made for the most part, good cinematography, and the score was pretty good as well. It's not like it's boring or anything but this is quite a generic revenge corruption plot. Very little backstory; as the film progressed i got new bits and pieces of information as to why the main character did what he did, but at that point in the film, it didn't feel like it mattered much.

Characters other than the one portrayed by Dev Patel, were pretty much non-existent random NPCs used to fill the scenes. I guess he knew how to write his own character but not all the others, which is too bad. Some scenes made absolutely no sense, others were even making me cringe a little, and yet, the overall feeling was "fun entertainment", so I'll let it slide.

Don't get the low rank
22 March 2024
I guess this was based on a book or something, I've not read it nor heard of it, but based on the amount of 1 star reviews I'm guessing some fanboys thought it wasn't representative of it or something? Well I'm not one of those and let me tell you, this series is a very solid 8/10. The story while being paced a bit slower than what I would have liked, at least in the beginning, was still interesting and got me hooked within the first minute without knowing what I was getting into. The acting was mostly well done. Been a while since NF produced something as good as this, and also quite unique. Giving this a 10 to offset the rating since it's way better than most other series rated 8 or even higher.

Excitement lasted 3 minutes and 8 seconds.
23 December 2023
I'm having trouble even starting to write something good about this movie so instead here's a play by play recap.

*three minutes in* "Why is she doing that? Why am I already annoyed?"

*Five minutes in* "okay that was a waste of 5 minutes with random and irrelevant information, but alright, gotta start somewhere."

*Nine minutes in and another 4 minutes of irrelevant cringe and bad acting, some plot arrived.* "YES!, finally something interesti..."

*12 seconds later* "BORED, SO BORED"

*13 minutes of random discussion about farming later* "I CAN DO THIS! I CAN SURVIVE TILL SOMETHING HAPPENS"

*7 minutes of more nothing happening and absolutely random content* "Aight, I'm out"

My dream was to have an adult version of something in the Star Wars universe and when I heard this was coming, even though it was rewritten to be something else, I was as excited as any person who grew up on it, expecting some good sci-fi.

Twenty seven excruciating minutes later, I understood why even Disney didn't want to touch this, and that's saying something considering 99% of what they released was garbage.

No this isn't Star Wars. Thank God.
21 September 2022
If Star Wars is what you're looking for, you're out of luck. This show is something completely different, just in the same universe. The first thing I would like to start with, is the fact the I've pretty much hated everything Disney has done so far with Star Wars, so Thank God this isn't even close to it. The second thing which surprised me completely is the fact that I was hooked into this darker world within a second. Three episodes went by in a second and I wanted more, more more. The atmosphere is darker, and way more intriguing. People say this is "slow" and "bland" but it's actually a great buildup which kept me in suspense. All the bad reviews and ratings you are about to see are from kids who wanted more of the regular garbage we got until now. If you did not think the previous series were any good, trust me, this is different!

So far so good.. almost.
8 September 2022
I don't really get the current rating. Most shows on IMDB are grossly overrated. This one is the opposite. My guess is fans expected one thing but got something else... I don't know really, and don't care. I came to this expecting a pretty good show, and mostly got it. The scenery, and CGI are fantastic; seriously on a another level compared to most of the stuff I watched recently. A lot of color overall and attention to details at the sets. The cinematography as a whole is great and even the score is at a very high level. This already roped me in and immersed me in the world, which is 90% of the way to becoming legendary.

Now the bad. The story is sluggish. Way too much conversation to the point of becoming almost like reciting bad poetry, not natural at all. The action scenes are short and underwhelming. The characters are not well developed yet, and are not super interesting to be honest. Hopefully it gets better with time.

Mixed
29 August 2022
The main thing which differentiates the new series from Game of Thrones is that most characters aren't compelling, and quite bland. The plot so far is also so predictable it's laughable. I do hope for some plot twists, unexpected betrayals, murder, and general mayhem, but doubt they can produce something on the same level. Prepare to be disappointed if you think this is in any way, shape or form on the level as Game of Thrones (The IMDB rating numbers are quite misleading). All I ask is for a show to be good enough to make me immerse completely into that imaginary world for an hour and forget about reality. So far, I haven't achieved that.

So far so bad
28 May 2022
Pretty much what I expected from Disney, unfortunately. The cast is not great, and mainly used to tick the race checkboxes. The script is unrefined. The plot is... The bad attempt at humor from Kumail Nanjiani doesn't fit the story at all. Also, apparently there's now a human sized T-REX race in the universe (WHAT?).

Hard to watch
22 December 2021
You know those movies that suck you in so you forget the passage of time and then it's suddenly over? This isn't one of those. It's a rebooty sequel with nothing great to add to the story. Conversations are long and lead to nothing interesting. There's not a single interesting character. The only redeeming factor is the special effects which were pretty cool, and even they, didn't make me go "WOW". Like the title said, it was quite hard to get to the end without yawning. Save a few bucks and rewatch the trilogy instead.

Not that I expected anything else out of this
9 June 2021
Cut out the first 48 minutes of the first episode and continue from there and then it might be interesting. There's no real drama, no action, no suspense, no thrill, no plot... there's nothing there so far. The next episode will probably still be 49 minutes of garbage and 1 minute of decent content.

Tarzan, a monkey and a lizard have some fun

Add some kid actors, some different ethnicities and one bad story that envelops it all and you get your average PC american film for kids. Whatever.

Warning: Spoilers
For 30 seconds. This whole series could have been way better if it weren't made for 7 year olds, and had... plot.

The "Silicon Valley" of drugs
27 July 2020
People say it's like Breaking Bad. It's not. More like Silicon Valley, only with drugs this time around. Not your typical stupid american school kids kind of show. It's fresh and fun to watch, and not slow, dragged out to death and serious like BB.

Mixed feelings
25 April 2020
Gonna keep it short. The plot is crap, but everything else was pretty great. Particularly the cinematography was very fantastic in my opinion. It's one of those movies where you just gotta clear your head, forget about plots or anything of the kind, and just enjoy the show.

Either the best CGI I've ever seen, or the best footage I've ever seen
8 February 2020
Finished watching the HDR version of this on an OLED tv. WOW. just wow. Half the time it looked like amazing CGI, but I couldn't be sure, and frankly; didn't care. Amazing stuff.

Completely surprised by this
6 February 2020
The story and filming is great. At first I was afraid this would turn out as another one of those "annoying teenagers" series but it wasn't. This show is more serious than I expected and was overall really good. Need more!

It's sick. And yet awesome.

Second season was amazing. What totally sucked me in was that this story is fiction, but at the same time might actually happen in real life. the acting is great. The story is awesome. Serious dark humor. Definitely worth a watch.

Plot? What plot?
13 December 2019
I understand the need for humor in the Deadpool like action scenes, but the forced humor in between is just bad. The not so subtle 20 minute Alfa Romeo commercial killed a cool scene. Got kinda bored after an hour. You get 4, that could have easily been a 7 movie.
