The Ravine (2021)
Forgiveness or Justice?
"To err is human, to forgive is divine." Perhaps that would have been a better title for this film. What happened to this family is absolutely horrible. But to forgive this murderer?
Let's not forget that he had already been forgiven for attempted murder. Obviously, he finally got it right this time, I mean the murderous intent. Do not forget that someone stopped him that first time.
For those who want to be divine, this might be a good example. I am not divine, I am human. However, I do not believe in trying to do something that is not true to who I am. Therefore, I do not forgive people who commit these heinous crimes. Nor do I believe that anyone should or be coerced into this "divine" concept of forgiveness.
What I thought was the worse part of this film is that woman who was like a "Jesus" figure. The butterfly incident was just a bit too cute. For her to say that the murderer was in heaven is, well, not credible - especially if you have ever read the Bible.
Most people would prefer justice to theories of divine forgiveness. The belief in god is innate for most people. Unfortunately, when these tragedies befall us, it's hard to believe there is any kind of divinity in the world.
On a better note, the film was very well made. Good cinematograpjy, great actors. It's just the theme of the film I find troubling.
Cracker (1993)
Interesting plots with a whale in the room
I say whale because they're bigger than elephants. I can only watch this show every once in a while. I think the character gets in the way. I think he takes away from the plot of every episode.
The American version is just as bad except that this actor, Robbie Coltrane is much more likable. His character is just not believable as a psychologist or psychiatrist. Just watching him a few minutes, you think the men in white coats are going to enter the scene any minute and take him away.
I also keep thinking that his wife is just going to take out a gun and shoot him dead.
He's just not "good guy" material. Nonetheless, the stories are interesting. They are definitely thrillers.
Dedication (2007)
Awful
I cannot even imagine a children's book author behaving like this. The film does not have a good start but you keep thinking it will get better. Then it doesn't.
Personally, I wish I could have inserted myself into the scene where he tells that little girl about beavers. I would have slapped him so hard on his creepy face that he would have fallen backwards. I'm not even a violent person, but that's the kind of reaction I had to this creepy film.
Raw Justice (1994)
Thought it was a '70's Flick!
Besides the incredibly bad scenes, inane repetition of that "ta ra ta ra" music clips, unnecessary "Three Stooges -like" violence, and tacky sex scenes; it was pretty funny.
The overall ambiance of the film gave me the impression that it was a movie that was made in the 1970's.
The plot was good. Unfortunately, it just goes to show that you can have all the right ingredients and still have your cake flop and be a little tasty too. The save for this movie is that it is funny.
The White Orchid (2018)
Modern Film Noir at its best
This film is excellent. If you are a fan of Film Noir, you know that things will unfold slowly. Nonetheless, they do unfold and in unsuspecting ways.
I was quite surprised that the sheriff played the part he did. It is an unfortunate fact that you can usually figure out "who done it" by the casting. Some actors seem to get the part of a villain over, and over again. If you have seen Gothika, you will understand.
The main character had me guessing almost up until the end. I really did not understand her motivation clearly. That is what a real mystery does.
Why some people are so critical of this film is a mystery to me too. Perhaps it's the ultimate mystery: why some people seem to hate good movies.
My theory is that most of these people might just be in the film industry and that they jealous and overwhelmed with envy. I guess it's that way in all industries.
You can watch this film on Tubitv free. You be the judge because you are or should be the only person dwelling in your head.
Fantastic film!!!!!
Love Lies Bleeding (2006)
Clueless in Horror City
I'm too jaded to watch something like this. I'm sure this movie could be entertaining for some people. For me, it's like watching someone get tortured. I think the main character appears to be too weak and clueless. His buddy, the main villain, is too easy to spot. There is no sincerity in his facial expressions. Therefore, he is way too obvious. Clearly, he is no sociopath. The real ones have everyone fooled, including me.
So, it's good entertainment for those who are not as suspicious as I. Maybe this could be a good test to find out just how naive someone truly is.
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit: Imposter (2016)
What????
I suppose the writers were really, really, out of plots. Even though this is fiction, it should be believable. This episode is definitely not.
Perhaps the message is that college is not worth it. Clearly, it's a question we need to ask. Is it elitist to as people to have a college education when so many people cannot afford it? Clearly, a college education cannot make you intelligent.
Back to the episode. Were these woman raped? I think not. Only an idiot would do what they did. It was a fraudulent pact on both sides of this sordid deal.
Strangerland (2015)
Inane
This is a stupid movie with a stupid and inane plot and paper thin characters. I must admit, though, the title is quite fitting.
