I love Morse and this episode has another great set of actors and basically a good plot. Except that a detective would never be allowed to investigate a case to which they had an emotional attachment. This sort of nonsense happens too often in Morse. Some have questioned the credibility of Lewis's actions at the end. But 1. There is a long history of police doing such things and 2. It is entirely consistent with his loyalty that Lewis would want to protect his boss from the painful truth.

This film seems to have whooshed over the heads of quite a few reviewers who seem to be disappointed it's not an actioner or a porno. I found its mix of social comment and surrealism intriguing, it keeps you guessing while revealing a side of Japan you don't often see in films.

I'm a big fan of KST but this is a turkey. The characters are mostly caricatures and the script is laughable - even KST and Sagnier can't do much with it. The the party scene with the 'Life Lessons' video is ludicrously overplayed, like something out of a daytime soap opera. Sad last effort by Corneau.

Pelé's rags to glory story is worthy of a great film. Sadly, this isn't it. It is badly acted, has every cliché in the book and tells blatant lies when the truth doesn't fit the Hollywood storyline e.g. portraying Brazil as underdogs in 1958, suggesting they were mocked as too small, implying Altafini came from a wealthy background. Pelé was my hero as a boy but this film is not worthy of him or his legacy.
